A Triumphant Return of Wonderful Storytelling

Dreamfall, the sequel to The Longest Journey, is a beautiful third-person adventure game for only $14.99 on GOG.com.

The Longest Journey, with its epic story and fantastically portrayed world and characters, was easily one of the best adventure games ever made. Dreamfall, a long-awaited sequel, never fails to deliver a similarly fantastic experience. Taking you a journey through another 13 chapters across the twinned worlds of Stark and Arcadia. However, Dreamfall breaks the expectations with brilliant visual style, breathtaking soundtrack, great voice acting, and challenging game mechanics that require you to think outside the box to complete difficult--but not frustrating--challenges and puzzles. The game offers much less 'action' than most of today's games, but satisfies with mature and intelligent dialogues, gripping story, and and characters who elicit authentic emotions to fascinate and engage any adventure connoisseur.

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey follows three adventurers: Zoë Castillo, a 20-year-old resident of Casablanca in 2219, April Ryan, the main protagonist in the original game (and now the Rebel leader), and Kian Alvane, an Azadi soldier and skilled swordsman in two parallel worlds: the technologically advanced Stark and magical Arcadia. An international conspiracy to introduce lucid dream-inducing technology that could be potentially used to brainwash and control the whole population of Stark needs to be stopped, and it falls upon Zoë, April, and Kian to wright the world’s wrongs.

Dreamfall is a multi-threaded, believable, and engaging adventure with amazing presentation and unique attention to details, and is available now on GOG.com for only $14.99 with wallpapers, avatars, the soundtrack, and 30 gorgeous pieces of digital art.

Pheace: That's the gist of it isn't it.

Despite their recent comments on them preferring low prices + low sales percentages (40-50% average), the new pricepoints and the higher prices are pushing them out of impulse buy territory and into sales territory.

As mentioned before. Apart from the hard line Goggers here, who really buys 5 year + games on impulse (not the retailer, lol)? Sure, the prices may be equal, or even somewhat higher on other retailers at the moment. But they've had sales on those games for years, and they will again, and most likely larger sales percentages than GOG.

GOG's changing, and their sales percentages will probably have to change with it.
this.

GOG was alright with 50-60% discounts as long as prices were in the $6-$10 range. $6 games i'd even buy instantly sometimes, without waiting for a discount.

now GOG's moving into 'regular' pricing territory with games priced between $15 and $30. discounts need to be adjusted now. $30 games need 75% discounts or you'll never reach the 'i'd-buy-it-for-less-than-$10'-audience.

GOG is now starting to sell the same games as Steam, GamersGate, GetGames and Impulse. i'd expect the pricing and discount policies to be adjusted accordingly.

Not as good as the original, ends on a cliffhanger, and costs $15. I don't necessarily mind paying that for an older game, but not this one; let's see if it doesn't go on sale at some point.

edit: OK, so it costs $20 on Steam and Gamersgate. Credit where it's due.

I have seen this game for $4.99 and $9.99 retail so it is a rather odd price point.

Yes the owner of the game chooses the price but maybe they will change it up if it doesn't sell well as I have seen some games get permanently lower prices on GOG before.

I think you're very right with this, but remember GOG's mindset is that high discounts are bad for gamers, for some bizarre reason or other.

I do think it's a terrible strategy, but I'll let the money do the talking.

yeah, but unfortunately, permanent price drops rarely happen in digital distribution. at the very least, it takes much longer than in physical retail (for obvious reasons).

YES! YYYYESSS!!
It's a good but unfinished game (very unfinished). So if they will ever make the next part it'd be nice to enjoy it again. Wishlisted until then...
(If you've never played it before, you'll definitely enjoy it even in this state!)
nice game, bit expensive knowing i bought this years ago for 5 euro, but nice release none the less

Retail, however, doesn't follow the same pricing rules as downloads. Retail has shelf space they could use for something else, so they frequently underprice stuff to sell at a loss rather than not selling at all.

coldalarm: Dreamfall: Chapters (the follow-up to which you're referring) is still on the cards. Ragnar Tornquist has been busy with The Secret World, though.
I keep hoping that it will become a reality one day (though as a full game and not an episodic adventure.) That said, "in the cards" means there is stil a chance, so I'll take that over nothing. I mean look how long it took for us to get Dreamfall ...
Too expensive, if gog are going to be doing more releases like this they need to get realistic price points for certain games. That being said its not often they get it wrong ! :-)
Speaking about retail :

Yes! This is perfect! I've been wanting to buy this game forever. :) Happy happy me.
Well, you did bring tears to me eyes dis time lads.

Dreamfall is an increadible experience, one of the few games that really show how this can be an art and I've being waiting for DRM free version for ages. Would've buy it even if the price would be like 2-3 times higher.

Personally I'm absolutely willing to pay more for drm-free releases of good games with multiple language support and great goodies as a soundtrack. :)
