Someone called her late daddy Doom-dork. Now, she's out for blood.

Doomdark's Revenge, a bigger, more complex sequel to the unique classic mash-up of RPG, strategy, and interactive fiction, faithfully recreated for modern systems, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99

Doomdark's Revenge is a revamped version of the 1985 game, retaining its gameplay and graphical style, just adding some more intuitive interface and high resolution graphics. At its core, however, this is the exact same title that enthralled the imagination of many gamers almost three decades ago. The turn based game mixes elements of an adventure with a robust, well-written storyline, an epic wargame in which you manage and command large armies, and a role-playing game with much focus on exploration of the game's incredibly detailed landscape. You already slew the evil Witchking Doomdark, now you're up against his wicked daughter, Shareth, the Witchqueen of Carnage. This is no easy task, as the sequel introduces a whole new level of independence to the NPCs whose help you need to complete it, and beating the game in any of the possible ways will prove quite a challenge. Let one of the oldest, yet greatest stories ever told in a computer game unfold before you!

Help yourself to some delicious 8-bit nostalgia, and fend off the corrupt legions of evil to foil the plan of lady Doomdark's Revenge, for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

rtcvb32: Glancing over screenshots it's obvious this was originally higher resolution 16bit & 16-color game (640x480 or 800x600). Apparently although the images have been enhanced staying with the ugly 16 base colors just makes my eyes hurt, I would have preferred if they dimmed down or even replaced a few of the colors, specifically the cyan. The style would have been preserved if they adjusted the palette to be a little more eye-friendly, or better yet an alternate graphics mode which increases it to say 64 colors.
The original resolution of the game was 256x192 8 colours ( 16 when you include bright mode ).

Now that you're here, I recall some talk about the possibility of an additional graphic modes for Lords of Midnight, which would have a bit more colors in them. Any plans to do something like that?
I love how sometimes the GOG homepage color palette sort of matches with the top few headlines, such as the Dragon Lore promo's blue, the D&D promo purple, and the release of Doomdark's Revenge and it's similar colors and it's matching top splash image. It's pleasing to the eye, it is.

It's still on my TODO: list :) But yes, I still hope to do that. I have the graphics, I just have to decide how I am going to handle it. I don't really want to double the size of the download. Although, to be fair, it's not an issue for Windows/Mac.

BreOl72: Instabought!
Man, I really like the incoming flow of new (old) games.

Keep 'em coming, GOG.
Darn! And here I wasn't going to instabuy it, even though I instabought the first one when it came out here! Now, just for the fact you instabought it, I'm envious!

Sweet. Somethin like the style of those colored drawings on the games home page would be pretty neat to see.
This was I think the most played game of my youth on the C64. I never accomplished much, but that didn't stop me having a massive amount of fun trying.

Mind you, on the other hand, I'm one of the six people in the world that enjoyed the third game in the series - And I managed to complete it as well!

Then you might be the kind of person I'm going to need, should I decide to retro-fit The Citadel into the 8bit style mechanic...
Another excellent release!

Agreed!
And how much revamped is this one compared to the original?
Just curious since I loved the *new* Wasteland

Ouch...

256x192? CGA probably. Lowest resolution I'd use is 320x240. Course we need to remember 1Mb was a big thing back in that day (few people had a full meg), more likely 64k, probably 8086 or very close to it.

Well might as well look it up...

Mobygames ref - Hmmm seems it was on the Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, and ZX spectrum; That explains the odd resolution (Atari, Apple, Commodore all shared those resolutions if i remember right, course you were outputting to a TV too...). The ZX screenshots are much gentler (although no prettier)

Ouch the colors my aagghh.

Aside from suddenly being catapulted back to my early fondness for wildly inappropriate neon, this looks decent. Don't think I can get past that cyan, though.
I really loved the Lords of Midnight remake, though I found it exceedingly hard and unforgiving, and I prefer to play it on Android. If Doomdark's revenge is like Lords of Midnight, it's a seriously good game with the usual clunkiness of games of old, still much more playable than the original.

Great release.

This seems to be at the Play store already. I've been playing Lords on my tablet as well, it's pretty fun and works surprisingly well.
I'm not really interested in this game but I'll have to admit that the art style (color choices aside) is quite nice.
