Talk to them, or raid them.

Depths of Peril, an action role-playing title with some elements of strategy mixed in for original flavor, is now available for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com, for only $9.99.

The life of a barbarian warlord is no easy one. One must deal with rival factions through diplomacy, trade, and in time, war. Between battles and raids against other barbarian tribes, you build the most powerful faction possible, to withstand your enemies. Building the power of a faction involves exploring a fantasy world, slaying dangerous monsters, solving quests for the city, avoiding deadly traps, and plundering loot to share within your faction. But in this world, actions actually have consequences, so take care. Annoying the powerful and aggressive Legion of Fear faction will cause them to declare war and destroy you. Ignored Orc uprisings in the Black Forest will cause even more trouble. Protect ally covenants that are being raided, because friends are hard to come by.

Depths of Peril is a single-player action RPG (role-playing game) with strong strategy elements. You play as a faction leader protecting the barbarian city, Jorvik, by destroying threatening monsters and completing quests. At the same time, you compete with rival factions to see who will rule the city. Barbarians choose their leaders by fighting to the death! The game comes with some interesting gameplay ideas, like a dynamic 3D world in which your actions truly have consequences and diplomatic relations matter. On top of that, clear and colorful graphics, and solid action-RPG mechanics make the game well worth your time.

If you haven't yet heard about the developer Soldak Entertainment, a small studio with a decade-long history of games made with love, make sure to pick up Depths of Peril for only $9.99 on GOG.com. If you have, we probably don't need to convince you!

amok: That's just the demo, though. You need to buy it to unlock the full game. Still - nice to have a direct link to the demo for people to try it out :)

Edit: Here is the demo in both Mac and Windows versions:

F1ach: Actually it (iirc) didn't say "demo" on the page from what I can see :

http://kivis-underworld.en.softonic.com/

So, sorry if it seems misleading :)
No worries, it could probably have the "demo" somewhere... however, it is just unlocked with a serial key, so it is also the full game. It is maybe a bit misleading for this reason. It is the demo and the full game :)

Downloaded and checked it, pretty annoyed the way they try to foist other crap on you as you install what is really a demo.

Definitely a site to avoid in the future :)
Great to see Soldak here, hopefully Drox Operative will appear.
Two indies on the same day? wow.

Crosmando: Depths of Peril is like the 0.94b prototype of Din's Curse. There's no real reason to play DoP, because everything in it eventually got done oh so much better in Din's Curse.

Also I hate this because now I'm going to feel like I need to rebuy all the Soldak games as they come here, even though I already own them all on their site.
I agree. I also found the "strategy" elements to detract from the experience rather than add. I liked the fact that in Din's Curse I could just get on with the business off killing, questing and collecting loot
Wasn't this in a bundle recently?
And I think they did the same concept, but better, with Din's Curse.. I could be wrong.
Not a great release IMO, but getting Soldak on board is a good thing probably.

It was on one of the Groupees bundle BUT the direct download doesn't work last I checked. That applies to quite few groupees download unfortunately.
JUst a heads up : this game is impressively awesome.
I have this on Steam. It is a nice little game, interesting in its premise but nothing too special. It is an interesting take on the ARPG genre, and worth to get when on sale. I spent around 5 hours in it, then I got tired of it, but if you want to level up your char more and more (it can be kept for several games, where a game takes around 1-2 hours or even less if you know what you do and set the enemies to a low difficulty) then you surely can have more playtime. Also, if you'd go for a challenge.

All in all, a solid ARPG that one might want to play. How much one thinks it is worth is up to how much one likes leveling up his char.

Comparable to:
Maybe the RPG mode in Knightshift (single game length, possibility to develop the char) mixed with Hinterland (visuals) mixed with Diablo?

I hope they see it that way...But since it's from 2007, they might call it a classic release and release another indie thursday...

It was also in the "Spring Bundle" from Indie Royale, although it was a quite a long time ago.

On topic: I already played with the demo of this game, but I didn't really like, but at least it's cheaper on GOG than on their website (It costs $10 here, while on their site it's $15, without VAT). However, I already played with Din's Curse, which is a great game (although it can be very hard sometimes). I was waiting for Soldak's appearance on GOG.

I haven't played Din's Curse. If I remember well, Depts of Peril is its first version [but I may be mixing it up with Kivi's underworld[. Given what an obsessive timesink Depth of Peril was, Din's Curse [or Kivi's] simply scares me.

Shades of Darkstone, at least superficially. Looks nice but I have a plethora of these kinds of games already. May pick it up in a promo at some point though, and good to have a new label on board.
How is it a game that looks like that is only 96MB? Pong isn't much smaller than that.
