Sometimes, true love just falls from the sky!

Deponia, a gorgeous adventure game that feels like a cartoon based on works of Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams, is now available on GOG.com for only $14.99 until Thursday, September 13 at 10:59 AM GMT.

Rufus would have been a nice guy, really. That is, if he wasn't such a self-important, all-knowing jerk. But hey! Living your whole life in the middle of a junkyard can do that to you. Why does he live in a junkyard, you might ask. Well, it's not like he had much choice. The whole surface of the planet Deponia is covered with a thick layer of trash. That's why our ambitious protagonist always dreamed of getting into one of the upper spheres, where the privileged part of Deponia's population leads a life full of luxurious bliss, probably even unaware of the garbage piles below. But everything is about to change, as a girl named Goal suddenly falls from the cities above with a warning of impending doom.

Deponia is a top-notch point-and-click adventure game from the makers of The Whispered World. It combines the classic adventure game controls with beautiful cartoony graphics and heaps of brilliant humor. The garbage-filled planet Deponia, with all of its gadgets and gizmos, is one of the most captivating, original settings ever to be featured in a video game. With hundreds of challenging puzzles, tons of witty and skillfully enacted dialogs, and amazing cinematic cut-scenes, Deponia is a game that every adventure fan should experience.

Join Rufus and Goal on their voyage through the mystifyingly beautiful garbage-filled landscapes of Deponia, for only $14.99 in the release week!

Mytan: How do you actually install the non-english versions of Deponia ? There is only one installer and it'll install the english version of the game. I can't seem to find an option within the game to swith languages either.

F4LL0UT: I don't have Deponia so I can't check for myself but for example in case of Alan Wake there was an external setup which could be run from the start menu. Maybe look if there's something like this for Deponia?
Aye Alan Wake had a seperate Language Setup but nothing here with Deponia. As the installation itself ran fine though I doubt I am missing something from the installer...might try to redownload it anyway...
Nice release! I hope we will see the Edna & Harvey adventures in the future as well.
Looks good, but does it have the same technical issues on some systems as The Whispered World? The demo of that game had completely messed up sound and the cutscenes crashed every time.

grviper: Also, nice job rubbing in Harvey's New Eyes lack of English release.
German master race can't hear you over the sound of playing awesome native adventures.

Edit: Lol at the second to last screen.

Mivas: Woot, the demo sold me on it. Can't wait to play it. Ah and it does support windowed mode and 1080p.
Same here, the tutorial made something really trivial quite amusing and I like the title song. I also watched a bit of the English version on Youtube and found that entertaining enough that I could imagine playing both the original and the translation. So I'm going to buy it now to reward the release of a multi-language version. :)

i just wonder, can you also alter the resolution in fullscreen mode? It seems you can only do that when you play the game windowed? The game seems a little bit slow on my rig, nothing game-breaking, in principle it works, it just could run a liitle more smoothly.

Definitely a game I'm interested in. I'm not buying it yet though because I've also bought The Whispered World and I've yet to play that through. Will certainly get it later, however.

GOG.com: until Thursday, September 14

tikeno: I assume that should be Thursday, September 13? Unless GOG uses it's own calendar system. If so, I want in.
It wouldn't be the first time they used their own calendar :)

Ah, just my cup of tea. I'd rather get it through retail, but on the other hand the price is just right for me and I do want to play it now rather than later. Sold.

No, no, you won't trick me. Leider habe ich Everlight auf Deutsch gespielt. Can't really apply awesome to that.
Also, it's a pain finding a DDL edition of E&H2.
Unique universe in the tradition of Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett and Matt Groening.
I always feel kind of bad for writers and other artists, when the great praise people give them is "kind of like another, more famous artist!" You see that a lot on mystery books: "Sort of like Christie!"

Anyway, I'll probably pick it up at some point.
Done

Deponia does look interesting and neat.

Merchito: Feeling just like you on this matter. I have a problem with games when the art seems designed for children. [...] Seems to me they are aiming at the kinder-garden.
It's an artistic style that has nothing to do with age. Whether you like it or not is another matter and no one will argue if you dismiss it on grounds of preference. But saying that is aimed at children is at least naive.
YES. I've been waiting for the GOG release of this game for months. Now I just have to wait however many more months for a price drop. :)

DRM free is always a good thing.

Interesting point you make there, but I guess that they can hope that eventually they become famous enough that their works are one day quoted in the same context :)

not sure, but I think I'll buy this game

I have to agree. It really irritates me when people dismiss cartoony art as childish as though they're worried that liking it will make them appear childish.
