A delightful mixture of tower defense and RPG.

Defender's Quest, a highly addictive mixture of tower defense and role-playing game set in a world shattered by mysterious disease, is now available 33% off on GOG.com. That's only $9.99 until Tuesday, November 6, at 10:59 AM GMT.

The Kingdom of Ash was not a nice place to live. The mysterious Plague decimated the citizens and the war seemed to have no end. The court librarian Azra, however, led a peaceful life buried in her books and shielded from all grisly matters by the castle walls. Then all of a sudden--she was ill. As all of the Plague victims she was tossed into The Pit by the royal watchmen. Never she would suspect the horrors that awaited her in this underworld of villainy, necromancy, and greed. But she survived, mysteriously cured of her illness. Now, with newly-gained mystical powers and a party of allies, she has to follow her destiny.

In the times where tower defense games are a dime a dozen, Defender's Quest really stands out from the crowd. This game is to tower defense games as Puzzle Quest is to the match three genre. The RPG elements make it immensely enjoyable and add layers upon layers of strategic planning, character development, and intriguing storyline. These are no simple towers defending the battlefield in this one. These are characters you'll grow invested in. There are multitude of settings that let you control every aspect of their behavior in battle. Should the archer target the weakest enemy, or should she spam her arrows randomly causing damage to the whole horde of your foes? Should your berserker develop his ability to attack three monsters with one blow or concentrate on his HP regeneration ability? A seemingly simple strategic decision could easily turn the tide of a battle!

Gather a party, master your skills, crush monsters, hoard loot, and survive the onslaught while you set out on the Defender's Quest, for only $9.99.
That's awesome. Thanks!

Good ideas, they should have accounts analogous to the GOG staff accounts. Green text perhaps?
ok Hong, you did it. You helped Larius get my money!

Larius you got a very dedicated helper there.
I bought full version on Kongregate. Is GOG version much different from Kongregate version?
low rated
Words "tower" and "defense" shouldn't be in the same sentence. It's one of the most overrated genres today, constantly dubbed "addictive", "challenging" and sometimes, get this, "innovative" whenever some minor novelty is added to a game. And the world still can't get enough of "tower defense" games...
@Bolek: Should be about the same, but I think the GOG version has some minor updates that I'll be releasing to all the other builds (including Kongregate) soon.

Also, I'm going to be giving Kongregate users the option to get a DRM-free downloadable version of the game. That should roll out later this week once I coordinate it with Kong.

Were you bitten by a tower as a child?

People buy tower defense games because people like tower defense games.
Robert Boyd of Zeboyd Games (Cthulhu Saves the World, Penny Arcade's Rainslick 3) reviews Defender's Quest:

So, great news, you already know an answer to your own question: according to you, there's at least three other genres that indies can make!

Trilarion: Yes, I am complaining now already the second time - that might sound pathethic, but I have the feeling Indies are restricted to a few genres. And I find these genres boring or a bit oversaturated at the moment. I would love to see Indies making other kind of games and coming here with them. Before you ask which ones: Strategy, Simulation, RPGs.

Alternatively I would love to see how good the Indies sell (here and elsewhere). Maybe I don't really find them interesting but many others do.
Netkar Pro, Evil Quest, and Oil Rush are all installed on my computer right now, but yeah, they're not on this website :(

There's a good number of indie sims out there, in fact I think the racing sim market on the PC consists entirely of them.
screw it, I'm drunk (team outing + bar afterward) and the guy who did cthulhu saves the world and was somewhat involved with things lieke "... Rouge" and other puns that I should remember but I have them in screenshots on my steam thing (GOG: GET SCREENSHOTS THING LIKE STEAM IT WOULD RULE) says the game is awesome and you know what, screw it, have my money.

People who make cool games = win for all.
It's strange how dynamic and inventive is the Tower Defense genre and it's not even a so popular genre. Here one more that seems quite inventive and opening new roads, one more to a long list.
