How about Global Thermonuclear War?

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/defcon]DEFCON, a game of strategy and Global Thermonuclear War, is available for the next 7 days for only $4.99.

Shall we play a game? In the middle of the Cold War era, the world as we know it was one press of a button away from total ruin. Now you get to press that button. What is the primary goal? To win the game. In DEFCON you compete as 1 of 6 superpowers caught up in the ultimate military conflict. It’s the beginning of the end of the world. "Defcon." That indicates our current defense condition. It should read "Defcon 5," which means peace. Position your bases, naval fleets, including battleships and aircraft carriers, air bases, radar dishes, and, of course, nuclear silos. The clock of doom is ticking and slowly counts down from Defcon 5 to Defcon 1. Scramble the bombers, get the subs in launch mode. We are at Defcon 1.

DEFCON is really simple to learn but the immense strategic depth and endless possibilities (but only one final outcome;)) make it extremely interesting and entertaining. Arranging defences, making and breaking alliances, mobilizing your forces, and finally unleashing the final strike is incredibly fun yet unbearably tense, especially in the Office Mode--easy to play with coworkers (including co-op!) and equipped with a Panic Button to keep it safe from prying eyes.

If you loved War Games, you will definitely play DEFCON and condemn billions of innocent civilians in the process, for only $9.99.

Visit the Summer Indie Drop promo page to get DEFCON, Uplink, Gemini Rue, and Multiwinia for 50% off until Thursday, July 19 at 06:59 PM EDT.

JudasIscariot: You do NOT need to download any bots, guys. They come with the game. Think of this like playing Unreal Tournament with bots. :D
Yeah, but in case of UT you didn't write "Disclamer: This game is multiplayer-only, therefore it requires an active Internet connection.". And UT's gamecard says "singleplayer", Defcon's doesn't.

I highly doubt that you have to download a "bot patch." MDyzzle never even mentions such a thing.

MDyzzle: New build is available and you can play the game offline with bots.

However, if you want to play online with friends you need to enter your unique authentication code ('My serial number' from the game page on your shelf).

So, the game is playable both offline and online.
GOG releases the most current builds of their games. So I think it's pretty clear that, out of the box, you can play offline with bots, but if you want to play the online game you will need to authenticate your key online.
It's a good game, but I own it already both in retail and on Steam, so no purchase from me.
All of the Introversion games are available in Mac versions, but no! So many recent GOG releases have all had corresponding Mac versions. It is a shame I need to buy elsewhere when I would like so much to get them here. :-(

I really enjoyed the demo for this game which I played a while back on Steam. I will probably pick up the Introversion bundle for Mac there when the summer sale hits.

Does this code allow to play via Linux client available from the official website?

It might but shouldn't you have the key already if you bought the game from the official website?

The demo version available there includes the full game, it only needs the activation key. So I think about buying it here but playing the Linux version.

It should work, considering that the key will be unique to you and no one else. Your mileage may vary, of course.
I would not count on the key being the same for different OS versions. You'd be best off asking Introversion before spending the money on potentially the wrong version for you.

Well, from the Introversion website:
Linux version
Simply buy DEFCON from our website to receive your Key,
then download the Linux client from our Downloads page!

And here is the Upgrading to the Full Game guide from the Support section.

Thus buying the game you receive the key that fits any OS version (at least Win/Lin). That's why I asked about the key provided by GOG.

Hey, guys who bought DEFCON on Steam or in Humble Bundle, could you tell how are the activation keys handled in your versions?

Thanks for the information. I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to play single-player with this game. Now I'm off to purchase this and Uplink, a game that I have spent probably more time with than Skyrim.
Already have this, but it's an excellent game. Now I just wish for Shadow President and Cyberjudas to appear here, which were even deeper and darker, not just limited to nuclear holocaust, but an entire cold war era geopolitics simulation.

Yes, when you buy it there but that wasn't your question which I'd still say you might want to ask the folks at Introversion, namely do the keys they provided to GOG work for the Linux version you have.
Damn, GOG, why do you do this?

I only got this game a few weeks ago on steam. ah well, every one: this is an interesting, slow moving rts with a really atmospheric (ie eerie and slightly creepy) soundtrack.

You'll have lots of fun blasting thermonuclear warheads at your friends, and when the scoreboard comes up, the realisation sets in how you just annihilated a quarter of humanity (your friends killed the other 3 quarters).
