How about Global Thermonuclear War?

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/defcon]DEFCON, a game of strategy and Global Thermonuclear War, is available for the next 7 days for only $4.99.

Shall we play a game? In the middle of the Cold War era, the world as we know it was one press of a button away from total ruin. Now you get to press that button. What is the primary goal? To win the game. In DEFCON you compete as 1 of 6 superpowers caught up in the ultimate military conflict. It’s the beginning of the end of the world. "Defcon." That indicates our current defense condition. It should read "Defcon 5," which means peace. Position your bases, naval fleets, including battleships and aircraft carriers, air bases, radar dishes, and, of course, nuclear silos. The clock of doom is ticking and slowly counts down from Defcon 5 to Defcon 1. Scramble the bombers, get the subs in launch mode. We are at Defcon 1.

DEFCON is really simple to learn but the immense strategic depth and endless possibilities (but only one final outcome;)) make it extremely interesting and entertaining. Arranging defences, making and breaking alliances, mobilizing your forces, and finally unleashing the final strike is incredibly fun yet unbearably tense, especially in the Office Mode--easy to play with coworkers (including co-op!) and equipped with a Panic Button to keep it safe from prying eyes.

If you loved War Games, you will definitely play DEFCON and condemn billions of innocent civilians in the process, for only $9.99.

Visit the Summer Indie Drop promo page to get DEFCON, Uplink, Gemini Rue, and Multiwinia for 50% off until Thursday, July 19 at 06:59 PM EDT.
A Simple but brilliant game of MAD. The soundtrack really enhances the game no end.
Question-The game page says that "This game is multiplayer-only, therefore it requires an active Internet connection." but I remember playing solo on my computer, without internet connection at the time due to college going through a tech update phase meaning that entire week we were without internet for the most part or it was spotty at best.

Is this version multiplayer/internet only? I'm a bit confused. Any help would be much appreciated.

This. On game-card :
With a large number game modes for either single and multiplayer, DefCon offers many hours of non-repetitive gameplay.
Umm... don't mean to be rude but the game info I saw that GOG gives is different. On the game info page it says :"With a large number of game modes for multiplayer, DefCon offers many hours of non-repetitive gameplay."

The disclaimer is in italics stating it is multiplayer only both here and on the game info page and there doesn't seem to be any mention of single player, that is why I am confused as I distinctly remember playing against the computer as a single player not multi when I played it from disc back when it came out.

So they changed it. I did copy-paste + bold. So I assume it's multiplayer only.

New build is available and you can play the game offline with bots.

However, if you want to play online with friends you need to enter your unique authentication code ('My serial number' from the game page on your shelf).

So, the game is playable both offline and online.

MDyzzle: snip
So I download bots, install it and can play off-line? If that is the case - shoudn't bots be included as extras?
Superb Game :)!

Does that mean your automatic key generator is working?
One word: Masterpiece! This game is one of the most amazing and unique experiences you can get as a gamer.

Every version of this game that I have ever played came along with bots and I'm quite sure that this one must also have them by default. Don't really get what MDyzzle means.

Edit: Gamecard only says "multiplayer" while even Multiwinia says "singleplayer". Now I'm really confused. I mean: come on. Both the Steam and Retail release had bots. What's wrong with this release?

F4LL0UT: I don't really understand MDyzzle's statement as every version of this game that I have ever played came along with bots.
I saw some 'Let's play' movies and it looks it has excelent and CREEPY atmosphere...Those missilles slowly coming to deliver a blast...brrrr
So - those bots - I download them from some site ?

As I said: I'm confused. I've played both a Steam and retail version and both already contained bots. I'd be surprised if you have to download them manually for GOG's release.

Edit: I'm getting more and more confused. I'm pretty sure that I never manually added bots. I really have to check my Steam version again.

Edit 2: The way I get it now MDyzzle's post suggests that the info on the release page is either wrong or obsolete and the GOG version is playable offline.

You do NOT need to download any bots, guys. They come with the game. Think of this like playing Unreal Tournament with bots. :D

Again to clarify: no bots need to be downloaded for DEFCON.

Enjoy the game, guys! :D
