Note: Following some discussions with Iceberg Interactive, we have been asked to remove Dark Matter from sale while the developer addresses the fact that the game's ending has some problems. The game will remain available for download for anyone who has already bought it. The developers have stated that they are working on a patch as a solution to this, and as we mentioned yesterday, anyone who wants a refund on their copy of their game is free to contact Support and we'll take care of you. Our apologies about this, and we hope that this helps address the problem. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below.

Dark Matter, a Sci-Fi thriller that challenges you to explore the dark corridors of a defunct spacecraft where light is as scarce as the resources you need to survive.

What is Dark Matter? Imagine you're stranded in a giant defunct space exploration vessel, and you are not alone on board. There's an ominous alien parasitic presence lurking at every corner, hiding away in the air-shafts, creeping through the conduits. This is a metroidvania-type title set in deep space, where no one can hear you scream, curse at your enemies, or call for mummy when you're lost in the vast labyrinth of dark corridors. In this non-linear survival and exploration action game you'll be challenged to make it through 14 danger-filled areas designed in the spirit of the darkest gritty hard S-F. With four upgradable guns, crafting mechanics, resource management, dynamic lightning that genuinely affects gameplay, and a reactive soundtrack, this gripping game is sure to stop your heart a few times as you play.

JudasIscariot: Let me know if you like the game :)
Will do, and will try to write a worthwhile review as well if I make it through it. :)

Mentalepsy: Here's one. Is this game pretty challenging, or is it another marshmallow?
I am not sure what your definition of challenging is but I'll use this:

It's not Volgarr the Viking challenging but it's certainly no Waking Mars in terms of difficulty.

Does that help? :D

ruzenqures: I watched some gameplay videos can someone tell his/hers honest opinion about animations. They look a bit clunky.
I am no expert on animations, but considering the girl just recently got out of cryogenic suspension and still hasn't gained her voice back because of it, she's doing pretty good all things considered :)

I'll take that to mean that it will fight back, but not with exceptional vigor.

I guess that's good enough. Super Metroid isn't exactly a staggering challenge, either.
Just four weapons? And what about any replay value?
This catch my attention.
Wishlisted.
Unexpected. It does look interesting and I crave serious sci-fi non-strategy games, too bad I'm not into TPP with platformer-ish visuals.
Looked at the screens and all I could think was, looks like "Aliens" with some updated graphics.
Whats tpp?. Hmm Looks nice. This and Aarklash .hmmmmm argh.. cant buy both

Third person perspective :)
It's fun so far. Great lighting. There is something about the "you are alone on a space station with only an AI" which always does it for me :-)

-- I don't think there are any SPOILERS below, but avoid if you really want to know nothing about the game in advance --

Impressions from the first hour of play are generally favourable, though I bet I'll be getting my nano-encased ass handed to me when the real toughies show up.

The setting and music are quite good, and the lighting very effective. Thematically I'm once again reminded of System Shock 2 and its kin, with that whole "spaceship taken over by organic growth" motif and the urgings of an AI you know very little about. Still, I can't fault the game for that, and the execution is decent so far. (The punning name of the author of the first logs worried me that I would be in for yet another indie overloaded with in-jokes and gags and references, but thankfully that has not been the case since.)

The graphics are well done, and while the animation is slightly clunky at times it also makes it feel a bit like watching stop-motion, so it's actually pleasing in its way. The protagonist is hardly balletic in her moves, but she feels solid.

The Xbox controller isn't too bad, though it can take a number of moves to get your inventory cursor where you want it. The game also seems to lose some hotspots (such as save stations) and I have to access them via mouse, but that could be down to me confusing the game by using both control schemes.

One other glitch, which doesn't affect the game, is the appearance of system debug messages. I frequently get "pre_cameraTrigger" messages appearing when I cross hidden hotspots, and once got a "pre_LightSensitiveBrain" message. Maybe this is intentional and represents an artifact of my character's neural interface or some such. But I thought I'd point it out in case the designers meant to pull those out after testing. :)

I'll see how I fare once I go deeper, as right now I'm a bit stuck. And if the enemies get too tough then I expect I can switch to keyboard and mouse for finer control in firefights.

So far and based solely on this brief time with it, it feels like it was a good purchase. I'll let you know if that drastically changes in either direction. ;)
Looks kind of like System Shock 2 meets Abuse. I'm intrigued...
My first impressions are pretty good, I posted a more detailed review on the game page.

xxxIndyxxx: Well there is a second video on the gamepage and it's called gameplay and the gameplay looks terrible...I will look at other videos of the game (I expect Totalbiscuit any moment) but if it's even slightly better then this, they really need to remove this video...
Sorry for the late answer, but you're right. I don't know how I missed it but I've a plugin that blocks flash so might be the grey background that covered it. Anyway, the gameplay video was ridiculous. I agree with you that they should change it.
