No place for cowards, really!

Braveland, an adorable but nonetheless epic turn-based strategy full of fantasy, charm, and clever tactics, is available DRM-free for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com, for only $4.99.

Braveland is a turn-based game inspired by old-school strategies with hexagonal battlefield. You will start as a humble warrior's son whose village was cruelly raided and will end as talented commander of your army. The story will take place in a hand-drawn world and cover many interesting places and characters. Various warriors will join your army - archers, scouts, healers, footmen, arbalesters, and more. With 50 battles that will test your tactical skill, 26 unit types to populate the battlefield, intense boss fights, character development, and adorable graphics style, this little gem of a game can serve as a savory appetizer for some, and the main course in the strategic feast for others.

If you thought that mighty magical heroes will never return to the land of 2D, Braveland is here to prove you wrong, for only $4.99 on GOG.com.
Hmmmm...

To wishlist or not to wishlist - that is the question...
To the wishlist!
Agree with most that it is too cute.
This looks so cute....bought!
I'll consider buying when on sale. Too little interest with such game simplicity, even for such low price.

undeadcow: I beta tested an iOS build of Braveland and enjoyed it even though it's more casual. It's a Heroes of Might and Magic style combat game with hexagonal turn based battles and stacked units, with more linear world exploration (set paths, occassional branching). There's a resource (gold) management component forcing your to decide how to customize your army - add units, buy abilities, diversity unit types. Your "hero" has a series of unlockable special attacks, buffs, etc that can be used occassionally to turn the tide of battle and can be equipt with weapons/armor that alter stats. With linear world exploration and rewards from combat the game can feel mildly grindy at times but once you beat a foe they disappear so that keeps difficulty balance in check; losing battles rewards partial gold. Winning battles rewards gold but reduces payout by damage incurred (healing costs). Eventually you amass a large enough army you have to decide which unis to play or bench (up to 5). I enjoyed Braveland, it's simplified in some ways but a good mix of accessible casual play with traditional hexagon bashing. The art design is cute but generic and script is playful. I played at least 4 hours and think there's probably under 10 hours of content. Braveland is worth a download but there are more detailed/difficult HOMM successors on GOG (but on smart phones there's few games that compare).
Thanks, that was most useful. Wishlisted!

SCPM: Bought it, and finished it. It's a pretty charming little game, good for a quick tactical fix that you can pick up and drop quickly at your leisure. You've got 3 difficulty modes, and about 50 or so battles placed across a long map. It's mostly a linear jaunt through the campaign map with a few branching paths that lead to stops like shrines that increase stats, shops, and places to recruit more units. There are seven different unit types, and you can have up to five different types in your squad. Units are assigned a 'star' value based on their strength, and you have a 'star' point limit of 15. Your character can equip items in one of four slots (head, belt, chest, weapon) that give stat boosts to your units. The story is a complete, yet simple tale, though it ends with a 'End of Book One' message, so I guess more campaign maps or a new game will be made one day. Despite the art style, the game is not packed with jokes or puns, it takes itself a little more seriously than other games (which I personally like). All in all, not a bad game, I had a good enough time with it.
Thanks for the in-depth review, it explains exactly what I wanted to know about the game +1 Game now on wishlist.

Wishbone: Why not say it like it is? "Braveland is a deliberate clone of King's Bounty, simplified for iPhones." ;-p
you'd be TERRIBLE at marketing department and I'd fire you right away :D

anyway, this games looks nice, and it's cheap, might pick it up (my mum used to love Heroes but now has very little time to play, this might be a solution)

Yeah, I have a problem with marketing-speak.

I don't actually mind that someone made a simplified King's Bounty clone. As far as I can tell, several people in this thread are quite happy with a simplified King's Bounty clone, so it's all good. Nobody is forcing people to buy it if they don't like it.
Nice release.
