BloodNet, a dark cyberpunk adventure classic with RPG elements, in which vampires take Manhattan--and cyberspace!--and the stake of the game is your very soul, is available for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com, for only $5.99!

In 2094 the children of the night have a new playground, as far from the burning rays of sunlight as possible--the cyberspace. With the wired and wireless networks covering the whole of New York with a thick digital shroud, there's virtually no place out of their reach. The fact that you have fangs at the helms of the mega-corporations doesn't help either. It would seem that humanity is doomed. But this isn't the story of the human race's fall. It's a story of one person's struggle. When you wake up with two bite marks on your neck in the middle of vampire-ridden Manhattan, and you start to feel the HUNGER, there's very little time to save your soul. Just remember to install some humanity-boosters in your cyber-deck.

BloodNet is a remarkable game that brilliantly blends horror and cyberpunk in a mixture of adventure and RPG gameplay. You will explore the gritty locations of a high-tech futuristic city full of cyber-enhanced freaks, and tread the dangerous paths of the Cyberspace, that houses more demons than it did ever before. Build a team of deckers, cyberpunks, mercenaries, and rage gangers to help you in your desperate fight for your last threads of humanity. With a dark, memorable story, a haunting setting, graphics that aged surprisingly well, and hours of exciting and original gameplay, this classic title is a cyberpunk delight you cannot say no to.

Face some of mankind's greatest fears and enter the high-tech realm of BloodNet, for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

JudasIscariot: The CD version is all talkie but without any sort of written text for the parts where characters converse with each other.

The floppy version is basically the same thing but without the voice acting and it's all in text.

The weirdest thing of all is that you can't, not to my knowledge at least, have the talkie version with text so we figured it would best to include both versions for two reasons: 1) for those who are hard of hearing and need to have text and 2) because there's that ONE guy who asks about floppy versions of games :P
Correct.
This is very sad :-(
The CD version also include extra graphics, and a couple of animations.

But it is more or less impossible to play the game without the text, so I don't recommend going for the CD version. The game is so loaded with story, text, talks, information, that you'll want to skip some stuff here and there. And witout seeing the text you'll miss many things.

VioleTAK:
There is a specific game forum for this post and a "spoiler alert" would be nice.

EDIT:
Thank you. :D

Kunovski: if I had a tablet I'd buy this instantly, that's HOW MUCH I want to play this game again... but only with texts is a bit "been there, done that", yet the talkie-only version is too hard for me, I'm not that good in English

Erich_Zann: I distinctly remember playing Simon 1 with both speech and subtitles using SCUMMVM.
yep, it's possible in some languages (I know Spanish has it), but not English...

if you played it in English, please remember more clearly and tell me how :o)
Never heard of it, not particularly interested in it, but it's by MicroProse, so that's a good thing!

Nobake: True, and I like RPGs. Nonetheless the P&C part is a problem for me. I should clarify a bit.
Theoretically I don't have a problem with P&C adventures, as far as interface and such. But I have thus far been unable to complete any of them without resorting to walkthroughs for nearly every one of the puzzles that are the hallmark of the genre. Occasionally the solutions make sense using some sort of insane troll logic, but mostly they just seem designed by crack addicts. It isn't fun, my brain doesn't bend that way :P (Come to think of it, I did complete one of the King's Quest games. Still doesn't really count as it was done by mindlessly trying everything everywhere until something worked, not actual puzzle-solving.)

I mostly play games for the story, so in a vacuum I'd be perfectly willing to go along with that. But I can also get good stories from games where I enjoy the non-narrative bits, or I can play a visual novel and get my narrative uninterrupted by googling for answers.

At least that was what I got from the adventures I tried in the mid 90's, a time relevant to this game. Haven't bothered with them since, but I did pick up Book of Unwritten Tales over the winter sale. It looks interesting enough to try and find out if anything has changed in the last 15 years.

So in summary, if BloodNet takes those insane puzzles and replaces them with RPG stuff, I suppose it is worth a look as the setting is very interesting to me. Otherwise: Meh, bordering on Bleh.

oasis789: If you don't have the patience for adventure game puzzles, you won't have the patience for the old school difficulty in bloodnet.
I'm inclined to agree here. I'd bet good money that if anyone rage quits BloodNet, it won't be due to the puzzles.
So, does this mean Civ1&2 and all the flight sims from Microprose are in the works. Ooh, Gunship series, the main game I remember from my childhood.

For those that want to reminisce:
List of Micrprose games
Nice to get a MicroProse release, I too hope this means there are more in the pipeline.

Crosmando: Shit's free bros, the owners gave permission for Scummvm to distribute it after it became compatible

I'm another of those folks who love to see DreamWeb here, especially with the full GOG treatment. I still have the original game myself, as well as this new free release edition. But it would be great to have it on GOG, where it could also find a new audience that otherwise might not stumble across it.

Ghorpm: Personally, I would also add Archon Ultra but I doubt it would be very popular here.
Oooh, I'm in another great game from my childhood. Though I played the original C64 Archon.

Awesome. Great to see good stuff rolling in for a new year.

Though learning the mechanics will be quite the challenge.

Same feeling.
So were all of the bugs (like the items that don't do what their descriptions say they do) fixed for this release, or will there be an eventual patch?
This looks good. Wishted
Not to sound ungrateful, but I wonder if GOG have anymore releases planned before next week
Looks like a great release to kick off the new year. Heard many good things about BloodNet. Maybe more MicroProse games will arrive on GOG as well. :)
