A cyberpunk thriller of man and metal.

Bioforge, the classic post-human action game with 3D characters, atmospheric pre-rendered locations and memorable story, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Pain. I feel pain. Feel? No. I only register its presence. That metallic taste in my mouth. What is it? Chrome and nitrogen coolant. How did I know that? Need to open eyes. My eyes! What happened to my vision? Why does everything look so sharp and artificial? Oh god! I don't feel my breath. Why don't I breathe? My hands! My body! It's metal! It's frickin' metal! What the hell happened? Where am I? Oh, god... Who... am I? Fear. I think I should feel fear.

Bioforge is a futuristic techno-thriller full of strange cybernetic creatures, ominous corridors, and terrifying mysteries, produced by the creator of the Ultima saga--Richard Garriot himself! You are Lex, a man unwillingly transformed into a cyborg by a dangerous sect of post-human cultists. Deprived of your memories and identity you'll need to navigate your way through a off-world base challenging your wits with puzzles and testing your skills in many action sequences, in a gameplay bearing a strong resemblance to the classic Alone in the Dark series. Can you escape from the clutches of insane fanatics, fight your way through the many horrors of your prison, and salvage whatever scraps of your memories and your humanity you might find?

Wake up to a nightmare of flesh, chrome, and oblivion and discover the horrible secrets of the Bioforge, for only 5.99!
And another great game found it's way to GOG. Cool!

elvenlord: Interesting question: now that this game is on sale here, does it mean all these abandonware websites would need to remove it?
avatar
bazilisek: Yes, and the respectable ones do that. Often, they will actually replace the download with a link to GOG. But it's an honour thing, not really a duty.
On Abandonia (one of the most popular sites) games that aren't available for purchase have a "Get it" button which provides with a download link, when a game becomes actually available for purchase they replace it with a "Buy it" button (which leads to GOG or another site), since when that happens the game cannot be classified as Abandonware any longer

Wouldn't they get notices to remove the content? I guess my question was concerned whether they legally are obliged to? I believe a game's abandonware status maybe disputable sometimes.

Let's see whether abandonia will remove it from their site...

Legally abandonware pages shouldn't exist, the concept of these pages itself is rather an honor thing. That's why so many of them are willing to take down games that were officially re-released.

elvenlord: abandonware status
No such legal term.

Hypothetically, sometimes. If they were concerned with obeying the law, they wouldn't offer any downloads at all – abandonware is not a concept recognised by any law anywhere. Abandonware sites are for the most part tolerated simply because there isn't anyone around who would sue them.

Think of it as jaywalking on an empty street in the middle of the night. Definitely illegal, but there isn't anyone to stop you. And the work abandonware sites do is actually beneficial, because it helps preserve our cultural heritage, though that isn't anything they could hide behind in court.

EDIT: Okay, apparently jaywalking isn't an offence in the UK, but you know what I mean.

As I wrote above, legally they are only allowed to provide games which were declared freeware at some point. The law does not recognize the concept of abandonware, it's just tolerated by many publishers and devs because they don't feel like they are loosing anything when their oldest games are being hosted for free.

gibbeynator: Take it in folks, because this is probably the closest we'll ever get to System Shock.
Don't jinx it!

I don't even know what Jaywalking is!
Yeah!

That's what I'm talking about!
Always wanted to get my hands on this.
Even if I had a physical copy (which I will still want to snag someday), I highly doubt it would work.
Thanks for clarifying the abandonware concept guys, this all makes sense now!

When I was a kid, I thought that Jaywalking was some sort of "Special dance" they do at the disco or something like that
Fantastic game! Origin titles like this could let you believe that System Shock is up in the near future. ;) Great, great game... thank you GoG!

I thought that in order to jinx it he'd have to say "oh, if Bioforge is already here System Shock is sure to follow soon".
