Have you ever been trapped in a nightmare?

Amnesia: The Dark Descent, a gripping first-person perspective horror story full of mystery, darkness, and demons lurking in the shadows inducing a constant sense of dread, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 only for the first 48 hours, to get your DRM-free copy!

Thousands of pages have been written on the anatomy of fear. It's one of the most basic emotions shaping the human psyche and dictating our actions. But how many of us actually know fear? Not the tingling sensation that something's wrong and you should be worried, but actual terror that's caused by constant, lethal, and very real, yet unfamiliar threat. This is a game that, according to many, comes as close to inducing that state, as possible for a computer game. Praised for its gripping atmosphere, perfect pacing, and involving gameplay, it's one of the most prominent--in not the most prominent--modern achievements in terror fiction.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent puts you in a situation with no escape and the only thing you can do is to push forward, deeper into the nightmare that's becoming more morbid and terrifying by the minute. You will find yourself exploring a half-ruined castle, that witnessed many acts of madness and inhumane cruelty. Deprived of all memories, hunted by spawns of evil, forced to behold sights that shatter your sanity, you will venture into the darkness with no real hope of ever emerging victorious. Mixing a fascinating story, terrifying setting, and well-executed design, this title deserves a place in every horror fan collection.

Are you ready to inject your mind with an excess dose of poisonous terrors? Empty your bladder, switch off the lights, put on your headphones, and throw yourself head-first into Amnesia: The Dark Descent, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The 75% discount offer lasts until Saturday, July 27, at 9:59AM GMT.

SangHee: Slowly but surely approaching the 600 game mark. Well done ;)
I'm waiting for the collection to get to that mark as well. Even if a few games get taken away, the number will still go up (and games come back after a while if everything goes right).

I did the math and by next summer sale, if it stays consistent with the last couple years, will have a collection of a little over 700. That's estimating an average of 3 games per week (some weeks give 2, some give 4), and taking away a month worth of releases for holidays and/or winter sale, over 100 games will be added. All we need is 109 and that's a bit over 2/3 the way to 1,000! Now THAT will be a milestone!

Penumbra: Black Plague - 429 votes
Penumbra: Overture - 387 votes
Penumbra: Requiem - 364 votes
They're most likely putting Machine For Pigs here anyway. I mean, that's why I think they dropped Amnesia here in the middle of the summer with an awesome deal - to build hype for a game that's about to come out.
Already own it on Humble Bundle so won't buy it here right now, although I'll probably pick it up eventually on GOG.

Have to say, though, it's an excellent, excellent, excellent game -- one of the best horror games ever, IMO, and for 5 bucks you're crazy not to buy it :)

I honestly didn't find it as scary as some people seemed to, but it did have it's moments. Overall, though, one of the best indies I've seen on GOG in ages, and a must-own for anyone who likes horror games.

Really awesome to see it here on GOG.

Haha. I have already bought it twice and still thinking about this release. I'm beyond help.

EDIT: I actually bought it together with Penumbra Collection at September 2010. Man, time flies so fast :).

nightrunner227: I love this game a lot, but there's one thing holding me back: no soundtrack. Frictional had some kind of promo long ago where a certain number of people got the soundtrack for the game when they purchased it, so I know they're simply not giving it to gog. That said, I'll probably still grab it.

Oh yeah, the Justine dlc was always free (it was included in one of the updates), so that really shouldn't be a selling point. However, Justine was easily twice as tense as Amnesia, especially the third encounter.

JinseiNGC224: For some reason I can't help but think of Sanitarium when I look at this game, even though it's very different and a lot older.

That said, I've never played Sanitarium ;(

I should've scored it in the summer sale (maybe I'll get it in the winter sale).

Though I don't know if that will be scary, seeing it's age, and how the game is designed. But I could be pleasantly surprised!

nightrunner227: I just started playing Sanitarium this year. As an avid horror fan who started out with modern games, I still was not at all disappointed. I wouldn't call it scary, and I doubt that's what it was trying to do to begin with, but it is certainly creepy and eerie even today.
Creepy and eerie is what I go for, though sometimes when explaining the horror genre I use those and "scary" interchangabely, but I have to remember that it might not necessarily be scary.

GOG needs more creepy/eerie games. I was disappointing to first learn about Darkfall 1 and 2 only to know they were already removed.
Well, on the one hand this is one of the best horror games I've ever played. On the other hand, I already own it on Steam. And Desura. But five bucks? Sold.

I'm especially enthusiastic about this release because it gives me hope that the sequel will show up as well.

Yep, The sequel would be an insta-buy for me if it appeared on GOG :)

Still, I don't see a reason to release the games in predetermined intervals. It's not going to help sales since people aren't gonna buy games they don't want (I know I don't). The sooner they release the desired games the sooner they start selling.
Neat game but bought it directly from the devs with a steam key two years ago now? And nother on Humble, etc... :P

You mean Machine for Pigs? yeah, it sounds like an very awesome game even by it's name, and the trailer was... AMAZING.

I hope it's gonna be released on GOG the same time as everywhere else.

Nothing needs to be pre-determined. It was just a guesstimation on my part for coming up with that, and I never said it was accurate. But I went with GOG's trend toward consistency. But there's always someone who enjoys a game they release. While there's more than a few games here with lower ratings (3 or lower), most are above that mark because people love the games that come out here.... I know I do! There's only a handful of games I would never buy, but then I do have very broad, deep tastes.
About time this game came to GOG. It should have been on here ages ago. This game, along with the likes of Pathologic, should show people that first person games don't need guns. But these games skirt around the one that should be on GOG, and that's Call of Cthulhu : DCOTE.

That's the one you should be going for next :)

Yes, but once again no Linux version to go along with the deal.

I can sort of understand them not providing DOSBox games for Linux, but for heaven's gate, this one has a Linux version that's compete and fully patched.
If you get in the right mood, the game can be scary, I haven't finished it and am scared just thinking about launching it.
Maybe I'll dare soon enough...
