Part survival horror, part detective novel, part action, and part adventure--a must-have for fans of exciting thrillers and sublime story-telling.

Alan Wake, the psychological action thriller, is available now on GOG.com--and it’s on sale for 50% off for a week! That’s only $14.99 for the game and both DLCs until Tuesday, May 15th at 21.59 GMT.

From Remedy, developers of classic Death Rally and Max Payne 1 & 2, comes a third-person shooter described by its creators as combination of "the mind of a psychological thriller,” and "the body of a cinematic action game.” The player controls Alan Wake, author of popular detective fiction, who needs to find his wife in a perfect and fictional--yet nightmarish and dreadfully real--town of Bright Falls. The story is told in episodes in style similar to a mystery TV series, with each episode having its own plot but revealing new piece of the main puzzle as well. The story is filled with endless twists and cliffhangers, there are recap sequences at the beginning of a new episode, closing credits, and a lot of cinematic sequences--all of these combine to create a fantastic “film noir” atmosphere, unique to the world of PC horror games. Fans of The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, and Stephen King will find numerous references and inspirations while solving the mystery behind supernatural horrors that infest Bright Falls.

Mr. Wake will walk the streets, find clues, and talk to people during the day; he will fight various enemies during the night. Light is the main weapon in Alan’s fight against the town’s inhabitants who have been possessed by a darkness that transforms them into axe wielding murderers. Enemies are initially impervious to attack, and can only be harmed when exposed to light, coming from your flashlight, flare guns, flares, and environmental sources. Even if you’re not afraid of the dark, the game will keep you on your toes, and once the darkness creeps in you will not want to leave your safely lit havens.

Gripping suspense, intense action, great thriller storytelling, flawless design--yes, Alan Wake is a perfect game. Time magazine named it the best video game of the year, IGN awarded Alan Wake “Best Horror Game”, it has also received numerous nominations for “Best Narrative”, “Best Writing/Story”, and “Best Character” (for Alan Wake).

Grab Alan Wake for the next seven days for only $14.99--and get with the manual, wallpaper, and a number of videos and extra goodies (stay tuned for more extras soon) all for one great price! Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future!

Merchito: Argh...
The computer test on "Can you run it" site says my fanless Zotac GT240 graphic card won't handle it.
Grrr...

Also, make sure you meet the minimum requirements guys, the game isn't TW2 demanding, but it's been made to take full advantage of PC power.

Anything less then a 8800 GT (ATI comparable) and you are asking for trouble.
Ok, thanks a lot :) I should give it a try then.

But... I watched the gameplay video. Is there this kind of music during the game ???
I hope not, it would be a complete atmosphere breaker.

PirateNeilsouth: Still though... Alan Wake?, now we are putting up games that are less than a year old I know gog is not doing just classics anymore but this is NOT the gog that most of us expected. Gog has lost it's charm and the cost should never be over £15 !

Some of the older classics are even too expensive, gog was special now it's just another steam company

Catshade: Technically, it's a 2-year-old game. And 'most of us'? I don't recall an election here that vote you as our representative.
There was a voting about newer games on GOG, and I voted for them. :)

Anyway, even though I expect this release to be a special case (ie. I am not really expecting a flood of 2010-2012 non-indie games here in the near future), it is quite an important precedent. Or has this game been released DRM-free anywhere else before, even retail?

I don't think so. This game used to be Steamworks title. Many people think it's impossible for GOG to release Steamworks title DRM-free, but today GOG break the wall.
WTFBBQ, GOG?!?

Never expected Alan Wake to be released, at least to be released so soon here on GOG. Well, and for $15 I have to say something: congrats and thanks to Remedy Entertainment, for the PC release and now this $15 deal.

You know, now that Remedy released it on PC they could give a few advices to Rockstar, of how to release Red Dead Redemption on the PC too, write them a letter. ;)
"Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future!"

Remedy only made 5 games, Death Rally, the Max Paynes, and the Alan Wakes.

Saying "games" in multiple means they gotta be talking about the Max Paynes.
Which is owned by Rockstar
Which is owned by Take Two
Which owns 2K Games
Which owns Fireaxis and Irrational
Which created and owns Civilization and Bioshock.

I wonder what this means.
When I first saw this I thought it was a joke. It was still really funny when it turned out that it wasn't.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I don't mind GoG.com releasing newer games, this was not an angry post or anything like that.

Heh, no it's a track put in by the guy who made the video. In game music is much better.

It means Death Rally on my shelf ... :D
Awesome price GOG, wish I had waited since I haven't even gotten to play my steam copy yet. Beat it on the 360 ! Love this game !!

Phaidox: I'm shocked, I really am. What a totally unexpected release!
I would have put off buying AW on Steam had I known about the possibility of a GOG edition. Now I feel obliged to buy the game again (my poor wallet), down with Steam DRM!
Exactly why I'm avoiding buying Vampire Bloodlines, Trine 2, and a bunch of other games on Steam. I just have faith they'll end up on GOG someday! (Also, already got tricked with Psychonauts and Indigo Prophecy...)
Wow. I had decided that from now on I'm focusing on buying from GoG because of the great releases. I never thought that they would get something like Alan Wake and for HALF OFF!! I played the trailer and it was an instant buy for me.

I'm downloading now and patiently waiting for my cake to arrive!!!!!!
And another thing, if this leads to 2K Games signing on to GOG which includes Irrational Games, doesn't that also clear the path for a System Shock 1 and 2 release?

This also implies that if the Max Payne series are the games hinted at, Rockstar is willing to soften itself on it's hardcore DRM policy.
It means that this release might be the most important release in GOG history, if only for that one quote.

Enjoy the "cake" and be a happy camper
Alan Wake for 15$? Now that's unexpected! Good job, GOG!
