Part survival horror, part detective novel, part action, and part adventure--a must-have for fans of exciting thrillers and sublime story-telling.

Alan Wake, the psychological action thriller, is available now on GOG.com--and it’s on sale for 50% off for a week! That’s only $14.99 for the game and both DLCs until Tuesday, May 15th at 21.59 GMT.

From Remedy, developers of classic Death Rally and Max Payne 1 & 2, comes a third-person shooter described by its creators as combination of "the mind of a psychological thriller,” and "the body of a cinematic action game.” The player controls Alan Wake, author of popular detective fiction, who needs to find his wife in a perfect and fictional--yet nightmarish and dreadfully real--town of Bright Falls. The story is told in episodes in style similar to a mystery TV series, with each episode having its own plot but revealing new piece of the main puzzle as well. The story is filled with endless twists and cliffhangers, there are recap sequences at the beginning of a new episode, closing credits, and a lot of cinematic sequences--all of these combine to create a fantastic “film noir” atmosphere, unique to the world of PC horror games. Fans of The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, and Stephen King will find numerous references and inspirations while solving the mystery behind supernatural horrors that infest Bright Falls.

Mr. Wake will walk the streets, find clues, and talk to people during the day; he will fight various enemies during the night. Light is the main weapon in Alan’s fight against the town’s inhabitants who have been possessed by a darkness that transforms them into axe wielding murderers. Enemies are initially impervious to attack, and can only be harmed when exposed to light, coming from your flashlight, flare guns, flares, and environmental sources. Even if you’re not afraid of the dark, the game will keep you on your toes, and once the darkness creeps in you will not want to leave your safely lit havens.

Gripping suspense, intense action, great thriller storytelling, flawless design--yes, Alan Wake is a perfect game. Time magazine named it the best video game of the year, IGN awarded Alan Wake “Best Horror Game”, it has also received numerous nominations for “Best Narrative”, “Best Writing/Story”, and “Best Character” (for Alan Wake).

Grab Alan Wake for the next seven days for only $14.99--and get with the manual, wallpaper, and a number of videos and extra goodies (stay tuned for more extras soon) all for one great price! Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future!
out of nowhere! a SteamWorks title DRM-free? and so soon? great price as well.

gonna have to think about this. would still prefer the Steam edition to be honest, preferably the one on DVD.
This was a very big surprise. Thank you GOG!

PirateNeilsouth: Still though... Alan Wake?, now we are putting up games that are less than a year old I know gog is not doing just classics anymore but this is NOT the gog that most of us expected. Gog has lost it's charm and the cost should never be over £15 !

Some of the older classics are even too expensive, gog was special now it's just another steam company
Yeah, I felt pissed off too... but then, I came to a brilliant solution: NOT purchasing it! who would've thought it'd be optional? go figure :p

Merchito: I see it's a console port.
Is the mouse involved in controlling the game or has it all to be done from the keyboard?
Not a port, re-tooled and made to look much better then the xbox version.

Onto the release;

HOLY HELL!

It's an excellent game, well written, gorgeous looking and decent length too.

I know you guys at great at negotiation, but that's one heck of a good price. The force is indeed strong within you. This is the first time the game is drm-free. Brought.

bazilisek: So I take it the "Collector's Edition Extras" (here) are not included?
It looks like it just doesn't have the soundtrack. I have no idea what "7 writer in the cabin
9 Night Springs episodes" are, but GOG has those...

15 bucks! 15 bucks, dude! :D
I hope my pay will come before this sale ends...

But they say at they end of the newspost that we must stay tuned for more extras...

Anyway, this seems to be a great release: new price point, but competitive (especially for us Europeans), interesting extras, languages. Added bonus compared to the competition: no SteamWorks !

Austrobogulator: Well, the description says "Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future!", so I assume that Max Paynes will be coming.
I hope so. I mean, GOG could add "Death Rally" as a freebie ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Rally#Freeware_re-release ), but with Max Payne they'd need Rockstar's approval. And they're Remedy's most popular games.

i think those videos are the clips that play on the tvs throughout the game
And here I was, replaying Max Payne 1 for the n-th time last week, thinking "waw, Remedy sure know how to make great games, I should check out their new title, Alan Wake!" Still, 30€ on Steam, I'd have to wait a bit before I could afford it....

And now, THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOG IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you kidding me?! I pre-ordered it on Steam when it was announced from the sheer joy of seeing Remedy's initially console-exclusive title on PC.

I've already played it and probably never play it again (not a big fan of survival games) but I also have an urgent need to support no-DRM version... Count me in :D
I normally avoid cursing on forums I like but: fuck me sideways... I was hoping for a classic release but this is actually one of a few games that beat almost every classic release I could imagine, especially at this price. I've been totally looking up to play this thing, being a huge fan of both Remedy and horror games. I love you GOG!
I'm shocked, I really am. What a totally unexpected release!
I would have put off buying AW on Steam had I known about the possibility of a GOG edition. Now I feel obliged to buy the game again (my poor wallet), down with Steam DRM!

JudasIscariot: Never played Alan Wake myself so I can only recommend The Witcher.

Kunovski: definitely Alan... it's shorter and it hasn't got a sequel which will make you start playing it right after finishing the first :o)
Thank you, thank you.

I've got the afternoon off, so will stick to Alan Wake. The 8GB will take a while though :(

Technically, it's a 2-year-old game. And 'most of us'? I don't recall an election here that vote you as our representative.
