Part survival horror, part detective novel, part action, and part adventure--a must-have for fans of exciting thrillers and sublime story-telling.

Alan Wake, the psychological action thriller, is available now on GOG.com--and it’s on sale for 50% off for a week! That’s only $14.99 for the game and both DLCs until Tuesday, May 15th at 21.59 GMT.

From Remedy, developers of classic Death Rally and Max Payne 1 & 2, comes a third-person shooter described by its creators as combination of "the mind of a psychological thriller,” and "the body of a cinematic action game.” The player controls Alan Wake, author of popular detective fiction, who needs to find his wife in a perfect and fictional--yet nightmarish and dreadfully real--town of Bright Falls. The story is told in episodes in style similar to a mystery TV series, with each episode having its own plot but revealing new piece of the main puzzle as well. The story is filled with endless twists and cliffhangers, there are recap sequences at the beginning of a new episode, closing credits, and a lot of cinematic sequences--all of these combine to create a fantastic “film noir” atmosphere, unique to the world of PC horror games. Fans of The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, and Stephen King will find numerous references and inspirations while solving the mystery behind supernatural horrors that infest Bright Falls.

Mr. Wake will walk the streets, find clues, and talk to people during the day; he will fight various enemies during the night. Light is the main weapon in Alan’s fight against the town’s inhabitants who have been possessed by a darkness that transforms them into axe wielding murderers. Enemies are initially impervious to attack, and can only be harmed when exposed to light, coming from your flashlight, flare guns, flares, and environmental sources. Even if you’re not afraid of the dark, the game will keep you on your toes, and once the darkness creeps in you will not want to leave your safely lit havens.

Gripping suspense, intense action, great thriller storytelling, flawless design--yes, Alan Wake is a perfect game. Time magazine named it the best video game of the year, IGN awarded Alan Wake “Best Horror Game”, it has also received numerous nominations for “Best Narrative”, “Best Writing/Story”, and “Best Character” (for Alan Wake).

Grab Alan Wake for the next seven days for only $14.99--and get with the manual, wallpaper, and a number of videos and extra goodies (stay tuned for more extras soon) all for one great price! Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future!

recognizer: What are the Night Springs videos? I heard something about other versions having you watch it in-game on the television?

Also this might not be a question you or even the GOG staff can answer but... I noticed there were some patches released for the Steam version--I assume Remedy won't just abandon this version (like what Double Fine kind of did with GOG's Psychonauts release)??
"Night Springs" is the fictional TV show you can sometimes watch while in-game by turning on televisions throughout the game. They have no significance to the plot, but they're a nice Twilight Zone-type of show that allow a couple minutes of rest between areas and whatnot. GOG just has them as extras you can watch whenever you want, but they're still in the game of course.

Unfortunately, can't say anything about the versions, although I am reinstalling the Steam version, so I might be able to let you know if there's any differences in the version number when that finishes.
Just bought this for two friends of mine. I know they'll love it! Thanks for offering it ^_^

Yes I did.

Neobr10: To be honest, if i didnt already own the Xbox 360 version, i would rather buy it from Steam for convenience.
For who don't care about (a particular) DRM, and who's currency is either USD or doesn't have a favourable exchange rate with USD, when the GoG USD price is the same as the Steam USD price, I guess there isn't much benefit to buying from GoG. For people like me who live in countries with currencies stronger than the dollar the GoG price is actually noticeably cheaper. Steam price: Alan Wake 11.49 GBP + American NIghtmare 10.79 GBP, GoG price after current exchange rate: Alan Wake 9.30 GBP + American Nightmare 8.40 GBP (neither the Steam nor GoG prices I quote take into account the 15% extra bundle discount which is available on both sites).
Appreciate the info :)

I do very much love the faux-TV shows in the Max Payne games--the 'Lords and Ladies' period drama in particular was hilarious. It's good to know Remedy's kept that tradition of winking metafiction; some great world-building details. One of my favorite developers :)

I haven't played the first yet, but they both look great. Question, though: in most of the screen shots, it's just the character shooting at things with a flashlight-equipped gun. Is that about the extent of it?
I know, I could do research, but it's late, and I'd prefer to see what people who have played it think of it.

MDyzzle: Alan Wake on GOG.com for only $14.99 was a big surprise, but I don't think anyone expected that we're going to start something bigger tomorrow:

Alan Wake's American Nightmare will be available for pre-orders tomorrow!
The game will be available 10% off for $13.49, but if you purchased Alan Wake on GOG.com, the second part is 25% off--that's $11.24 for a game you are not allowed to miss.

What do you think?
First time buyer on GoG. You took my purchase away from Steam. Yay! I hate Steam.
I have a huuuuuge backlog and almost no time to play the games, but this is an awesome release. So I bought it, also because I know you will eventually add the soundtrack as well. I have to admit I was actually deciding if I want to get the game on Steam, because of the achievements. Then I reminded myself I dont play games for achievements. And having a DRM-free copy is great. So, thank you and thanks Remedy :D

wormholewizards: "Stay tuned for more extras soon"

Soundtrack?
I just want to confirm... when you guys are talking "soundtrack", you're talking about the separately-downloadable soundtrack that some games have as extra goodies, right? The game itself WILL HAVE MUSIC, right? Or do you need this "missing soundtrack" to have music at all? I assume not, but just want to be sure before I buy!

Yeah, that one. Currently GOG extras included all the stuff from Collector's Edition, minus the soundtrack.
Alan wake was never my type of game... til i had a go at a 'free' **cough** copy. Checked Steam surprised at the cheap price, then checked GOG (as i do religiously daily) - and the deal floored me :). Way best deal of the year so far on GOG !. Instabuy for me!!.

Psss dont forget the old classic's GOG - especially for all of us waiting for System Shock 1 & 2 someday ;).
Great that you also have a discount now because of Steam's midweek madness -50%. :)

For future reference, when you wanna demonstrate that you pirated a game, just say it. Don't act coy or dance around the fact.

Neobr10: Did you read the posts he answered? I dont think you did. Many GOG users just cant understand that not everyone hates DRM. And yes, there are some GOG-fanatics that are just as annoying as Steam fanboys.
Apparently you never had a chance to read other Fred comments.

Which basically are always (when speaking about GOG and Steam) "why GOG even bother with new games, Steam is the best", and it's quite annoying, at least for me, because many (or even most?) GOG users, including me, care about DRM-free feature, and someone who is saying "DRM-free" is not really important, he's, as I said, a bit annoying.

I have nothing against Fred personally, but I agree with 'himself' that Fred seems (for me) to be most militant person.

Ah!!! I've bought it on steam a month ago to support Remedy... I've never even got a chance to play it yet (time issues). Unlucky, nothing more to say... :-(
I wishlisted it for the time being.
