Best. Cover. Art. Ever.

7th Legion, a futuristic real-time strategy game with a great selection of units to lead into battle over the course of 35 extensive and challenging missions, is available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Centuries of reckless consumption and overpopulation had brought the Earth's ecosystem to the brink of collapse. In desperation, governments of the world developed an interstellar Evacuation Program granting exit passes only to the most privileged segments of society. The poor and common were left behind to perish. Now centuries later, the "Chosen" have decided to return to Earth and assume control. But there's a catch - the 7th Legion is waiting with a powerful and fiery "welcome home" BBQ planned in their honor.

7th Legion is an excellent RTS title featuring endless strategic choices and timed sub-missions in a futuristic war-torn world. You get to play command either the 7th Legion or the Chosen in over 35 feverish finger-blistering combat missions. Over 50 Battle Cards and 20 power-ups may instantly turn the tide of battle. Progressive technology levels reveal advanced buildings, units and weapons. Ruthless mercenaries get smarter as they collect mutilated bodies for cold hard cash. The game comes with a full MP3 soundtrack!

Even though it did sport the most awesome game cover art of the 1990s, 7th Legion--released a little bit after Command and Conquer: Red Alert-- was overlooked by many strategy fans. If you had the misfortune of being one of them, or if you do remember 7th Legion fondly, get it now on GOG.com for only $5.99!
Great release.
Great release. Think i had it back in the mists of time and will pick this game up once my game embargo is over.
I saw the main image and hoped it was an action game like Crusader or something. RTS doesn't excite me so much but I'll look into and maybe add to the wishlist.
Not necessarily that good, but I kinda expected this one to pop up here sooner or later.
I do recall having a bit of fun with it back in the day, though.

Niggles: Note - the one review i can see for it on GOG probably isnt by someone who actually bought it here....
Are you saying the review can't be trusted? It seemed quite a good review, telling what issues the gameplay has in his mind etc.

No idea if I agree or disagree with him/her, but still. And I'll probably check this RTS title out anyway, I recall enjoying some other panned RTS games in the past (like Tiberian Sun).

Exactly. I would trust that review more than one that says "This game defined my childhood! I remember playing it with my brother on our old 386 when it was the only game we had".

Still I'd like to see some other opinions, and I'll probably still get it at some point to support GOG and classic releases.

Yes but the game is from 1997. I do agree that posting a review for a brand new game that was released 5 minus ago is silly and annoying but for classic games... If somebody owns a boxed version and knows the game well then I think it's good that he/she is posting a review immediately. It may help other gogers. Sure, he/she can't say anything about technical issues of the game but I guess most people would like to learn something about the gameplay and he/she can tell them that.
high rated

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, and there's no rule that you need to buy the game here to review it. :-)

Sure, sometimes our version of the game might prove to be updated and improved greatly in comparison to what you remember it to be, so we would encourage making sure you're writing about the same thing that we're offering. Still, all proper reviews are welcome, whatever rating they might come with. After all, GOG.com is a community, not only a store, and as such it greatly benefits from users willing to share their opinions of games.

Plus I love opinions from people who describe a game from how they remember it in the original context. Someone who first played the game when you could find it on the store shelves next to Red Alert and Warcraft 2 will describe it completely differently than someone who approaches it as an obscure old game and actually has to do some serious analysis to conclude why the game disappeared into oblivion (and often fails to find the actual reason - which may be perfectly obvious to people who played it upon release).

Bravo! Beautifully said! Bravo indeed! My heart just shed a tear.

I will probably buy it full price just to support this amazing release, thank you gog! I would really appreciate FLAC files for the soundtrack though as this has one of the best soundtracks ever made.

Now looking forward to NAM and Redline from Tommo!
and bought it!

We would love to make FLACs of the OST but since it came from the game files and those were in a proprietary format, we weren't sure if we could comfortably convert them into FLAC and still call them "lossless" (in FLAC terms, at least).

You're welcome :)

Enjoy the game :)
I vaguely remember the title from seeing it in the store, but I don't think I've ever played it.
Looks a bit generic, but probably pretty fun.
