A post-crime story.

1954 Alcatraz, a Daedalic Entertainment prison break adventure where treachery meets love and morals clash with greed, is available 10% off on GOG.com. That's only $17.99 for the first week.

Joe's doing 40 years on Alcatraz for a heist on an armored truck. The loot is still hidden out there, but only Joe knows where it is. In the streets of San Francisco, Joe's ex-accomplices and his wife are eager to find the stolen money. Who will get their hands on the dough? Players will decide between love, treachery, life and death: will Joe's wife, Christine assist her husband during his prison break? Will they recover the fortune together? Or will they succumb to greed? Will Christine deceive Joe, taking revenge for all the disappointments and a marriage that brought her nothing but hardship? Will she just turn her back on Joe and hit the road with his former accomplices? Or will Joe gain everything in the end?

1954 Alcatraz, offers all what makes a great adventure: challenging puzzles, a mature crime story with a dynamic plot and various possible outcomes, and a whole bunch of shady characters: brutal felons, making life on The Rock even harder for Joe, while outside not only his partners-in-crime but also snoops and cops are after the money and Christine. The cinematic San Francisco of the 1950s, caught in a gritty comic style is a harsh place. But it's also a place where 1954: Alcatraz can pay homage to history and zeitgeist, in form of the Beatnik culture and other contemporary themes.

If you're looking for immersive plot and an envolving story with multiple endings you should check out 1954 Alcatraz, for only $17.99 on GOG.com. The 10% off release discount offer lasts until Tuesday, March 18, at 10:59AM GMT.
At first sight I really thought it was Pendulo Studios making this, or Daedelic hired their visual artist(s).. Nice release!!

Hmm,...the (German) reviews I read so far aren't exactly overflowing with enthusiasm.

I think, I'll wait with a purchase.
Sweet! ;-)

what are they sayin'? :)
thanks!
Great! Alcatraz that's not in Daikatana!

kalirion: Daedalic is going 3d now (aside from Roach)? Not sure how to feel about that, always liked their 2D art, especially in Deponia series.
avatar
vicklemos: Roach is kinda 3D I suppose..
But damn this game looks gorgeous!
Yeah, I didn't word my comment well - basically I thought Roach was a one-off for them, a title they didn't develop and just published, and they'd stick to 2D for their own stuff.

To give you just some quick catchwords:

-very linear storyflow
-Inconsistencies in story
-illogical and uninspired story
-shallow and stereotyped characters /superficial and uninteresting
-poor and far too easy puzzles
-mix of 2D handdrawn Backgrounds (mostly nice done) and animated 3D Characters/Objects (stock stiff animations, angular heads/bodies and muddy textures) - which fits together like chalk and cheese
-mouseclicks are not always recognized
-long loading times
-some missing 3D equivalents to 2D objects in your inventory (e.g.: you use a wrench out of your inventory, but in the scene that wrench isn't shown - your char just jiggles his empty hands as if he'd be using a wrench)
-etc.,...

To end with the one thing that all reviews are positive about: the jazzy soundtrack is good!

Happy birthday then! :)

Here's a review:

That point of view isn't an individual one, I'm afraid.

They're just the publishers of this, the developers are Irresponsible Games. I'm sure they'll keep making and releasing 2D games as well.

I think the summary of it is "all style, no substance". However, considering how much I like film noir and old gangster flicks, and the soundtrack, I think even just the style will make me enjoy this game, despite any game design flaws or plot holes.

Why isn't Irresponsible Games credited among the developers on the game card?
Even Daedalic Entertainment credits them on their site.

Well, I see the following listed on the site you linked:

Platform: PC
Genre: Adventure
Developer: Daedalic Entertainment
Publisher: Daedalic Entertainment
Distribution: EuroVideo
Ratings:

and that's how the game's listed on every other digital distribution channel. That's all I know :/

From the blurb (emphasis mine):
1954 Alcatraz

I thought it's important to acknowledge the contribution of small(er) studios, but if you only go by what's listed on Daedalic Entertainment standard game card I have to shut up, I guess.

Hiya,

We asked Daedalic about this and the updated info should be appearing on the game card now :)

Let's just say there was a slight mis-communication that's been thoroughly rectified :)
