Okay, so I might be slightly biased when I proclaim that:

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is one of the greatest online FPS experiences ever!
(I've been a fan ever since it was originally released as an UT2003 mod).

However, Please don't shrug off my giddy christmas morning excitement as just another fanboy love letter. If you enjoy (and this is a very important requirement) Realistic simulated warfare in a gritty WW2 setting you really need to take advantage of the free weekend on steam and try it out.

It's true the game was a buggy mess upon initial release, but they've just released a 5gig GOTY edition style patch that fixed every issue that i'm aware of.

So if you could please kindly do me a favor and check out the newest edition of my favorite online game of all time, that would be great, mmmkay. I want the community to thrive for many years to come :)

PS there are also 2 awesome mods in the works set in Vietnam and The Pacific(ww2)

I was thinking of trying it out, but I heard the community is nearly dead cause the game was broken. I guess the GOTY patch fixes things?
yeah, the patch is a game changer. All of the problems have been fixed, they've been working on it for 6 months and its 5 gigs lol. Also, there is a BOAT LOAD of full 64 player servers to choose from at the moment.

It's true this game was dead before this patch came out, but that was because of all the game breaking bugs and poor optimization. But this patch has truly fixed everything, and i have a feeling that most of the original purchasers will come back now that it's been fixed.

So I really have high hopes that the community will stay at a healthy size long after the free weekend.
Okay, well I'll download it tomorrow for free and try it out!
I felt like it was like Battlefield except in WWII but the character has very unrefined movement and you can either get past that or not...

I always felt like the controls of RO2 weren't solid feeling. When leaning there was an annoying delay. Aiming down sights takes a bit. Etc etc. I'll give it another try though.

Isn't that, ye now, supposed to be the realism factored in?

sorry lol that wasn't even a complete sentence on my part. What I mean was that it felt weird when aiming down the sights. The zooming in slowly felt wierd but I think that's just me :P.
Well, the installation is the longest of any Steam game, that is for sure ...

Edit:

After trying for over half an hour to get this game to run, let alone enter a match, I'm done with it.

I usually never experience any technical problems with my games, even the worst GOGs run flawless without much tinkering on my machine. But this game fscked up on literally every step on the process....

My laptop is probably too weak for it anyway, so I won't download 9 gigs of data.

But I surely am interested in this one. Good to hear that game breaking bugs are fixed.

But I don't think game popularity will last long after the free weekend. It's too hard for typical burger eater call of duty fan.
