michaelleung: I have never heard of Red Dwarf until now, but I checked out some clips on YouTube, and damn they're funny! I think I'll have a gander at the DVD when it comes out.

You really need to see some of the earlier episodes...
The characters have a lot of back story behind them and seeing them develop from the pilot episode to now adds a lot to it.
I can never decide my favourite season when I think back on it... although it usually revolves around sesons 4 or 6... I didn't like seasons 7 or 8 that much... they were a major let down after 6 so I'm hoping this weekend will have a bit of the RD crew 'spark' back.

He's right, you should see it from the beginning, or at least from series 3 onwards.

Yeah, I think seasons 3-6 are the best. I didn't like the changes they made in series 7, and pretty much hated series 8. It just didn't feel like Red Dwarf anymore.

jimbob0i0: Hmm we need a 'favorite star trek' thread.... TNG, Voyager, Enterprise, Classic, DS9 for me.

Is that in ascending or descending order? What was your problem with either TNG or DS9? I thought those were the 2 best series (DS9 being the best)
I loved all the red dwarf episodes too. I do agree it lost something when Rob left but I thought the other writes that stepped in did a pretty good job.
I've been thinking of buying a DVD too, i already watched a few episodes on youtube, but does the english version have subtitles?
sometimes i just can't get the jokes beacuse i miss a word or two, and since some characters have a pretty heavy accent i'd like to go sure on not wasting money on stuff i don't understand.

All the DVDs I have of Red Dwarf (series 1 thru 8) have English-SDH subtitles, but no other languages. More options may be available in other regions/markets.

Descending - TNG is my favorite.... I just never really got on with DS9... the whole dominion war thingy never really worked for me - but maybe I just saw a few bad episodes and didn't give it a chance after that.
Think I might get out my RD set tonight - this conversation has got me in the mood for it ^^
speaking of red dwarf has anyone seen part 2 i have very funny and yet surreal especially for those in the uk lol

Yeah I just watched it... very very surreal. I'm not sure how I like it, but it's Red Dwarf, so I'll see where it goes before passing judgement.
well it goes to eastenders lol
Red Dwarf is IMO the best thing that has ever been made for television.
The UK version used to be damned good. This new revival from Dave, is absolute crap. I really wish I hadn't wasted 45 odd minutes of my life watching parts 1 and 2.
lighten up and don't get so techey was quite funny in places and you forget that no eps of red dwarf have been made to nearly a decade. it wasn't that bad anyhow
I was disappointed with the new three-part series, it was a touch short of good funny moments.
I'd much rather just watch the old series again (and again.) which thankfully can be seen regularly on Dave.
Okay I just watched the three parter Dave....
SPOILER DISCUSSION AHEAD!
Okay keep reading...
The nod back to Back to Reality was good but for most of it I have to say I was cursing - my wife was laughing at me for how much I was hating it.
I'm not sure yet if I like it or not. Might have to revisit it - watch it again in a few days after sleeping on it before making my final decision. I think it was perhaps pushing it to do it as a triple episode over the weekend (would have been worse one episode per week however).
If they make a series 9/10 and it is of the quality of 6 (well better than 7/8 anyway) then this will fit in nicer I think as a special - but if there is no more and this is how Red Dwarf finally burns out I'd have to say it was a huge anticlimax and let down to the series as a whole... I think... maybe...
well i enjoyed the 2nd part more more than the 1st and third part it's just too weird for words
Seriously, they took my favourite story line from the entire of Red Dwarf and trashed it. (Putting it nicely). I think it's fairly obvious where all the funny came from out of the Grant Naylor partnership.
