It has the capacity to be awesome, but also the capacity to fail badly... really does depend on the writing.

Weclock: awesome and all, but what about kachinsky?!

JudasIscariot: kochanski you mean?

yes. :P

I disagree. It is something the cast has done for a long time, and I'm certain they're aware we don't want something new, we just want something more.

Well, as long as the cast is enthusiastic about doing it. There's nothing worse than a reunion with the spirit drained out of it because the cast members were just going through the motions..

I'm glad they appear to be going back to the series 3-6 cast. I didn't particularly like series 7 and 8. I think bringing Kochanski into the mix was a mistake.
Did someone say vindaloo?
This is the best part of that BBC article: "The new two-part series Red Dwarf: Back to Earth will be followed by a "no holds barred" episode without sets, special effects or autocue."

Yes, it sounds interesting, and very "Can't smeg, won't smeg", but I'm wondering what they mean about "no sets". Is it just going to be the actors, sitting around a table in the BBC cafeteria in their normal clothes, saying whatever comes to mind?

They could just use a semi-futuristic room (grey walls (ocean grey!)) with a table, and assorted futurery props. Props aren't sets, and Red Dwarf sets don't really have to be elaborate.
The important part would be sitting around saying whatever comes to mind /in character/.

True. It was slightly annoying to have series 8 end with a whopper of a cliffhanger, and then nothing more. Still, I assume they'll give some sort of explanation at the beginning of the new episodes.

they don't have to be elaborate, but they usually are.
Attention, all Red Dwarf fans! Remember that the first of the new episodes airs tomorrow! That is, as it's past midnight now, it's actually today! See the whole schedule here.
Oh, and remember, there are those who don't have the UK channel strangely named Dave (this would include me), so if the people who do see it tomorrow would like to discuss it, please do it in a new thread, with the word SPOILER figuring prominently in the title.

It'll probably be up on the 'net no more than a couple of hours after each episode's ended.
