It's nothing to do with the GOG download there is something else on your system.

Bought it, run it, no malware. You have something else on your system and should certainly run a thorough check.

That said, if the download you got was corrupt in transit then you could see the program fail to install.

I would be highly implausiible that you are the only one that one that spottet a virus in a GOG release. Maybe some of the other sites you visited were the real perpetrator.

I am pretty sure that the GOG releases are clean. Of all the games I have downloaded and played, I never encountered any malware etc.

thanks for your answers..it may sound weird but it happened right after running the .exe file, which made me think the problem had to be there..wouldn't you be suspicious? Maybe i should give a try on this never used laptop i got, but im kind of scared about that

Have you specifically scanned the GOG .exe for malware and viruses?

Your caution is both understandable and commendable - run a specific check on the file you've downloaded before you run it, and then once you've installed it - *but before you run it* - do another sweep.

If you find no virus and your system still gets TKO'd, then it has something to do with your operating system running the game. That isn't a virus, though it's a minor detail if your system breaks anyway. I've run GOG games on Windows 7 (x64) and XP (x32) on desktops, and Vista (64) , 7 (64), XP (32), and under WINE on laptops, so they do support a wide variety of installation platforms.

Sorry you had such a bad initial experience. If you keep having trouble, please make a note here in the forums - GOG has a fairly small team of employees, and they do what they can, but you can often get quicker support on the forums than via a support ticket.

I have Red Baron 3D from GOG - no virus, scan your system, but as always it is indeed good to be cautious. However, there are people with well over 200+ games from GOG. I have a handful. I think they're clean. :)

as people already said: It's probably just your system mate, or Antivirus

actually i didn't scan the file before running it..ill be waiting for my original pc to be fixed and (brrrr) give it another try after scanning the thing over and over! By the way i'm (i was) using windows xp as well. Thanks again!

What antivirus are you running?

If you set it too sensitive it will think everyother file on your pc is a malware or a trojan or something, paticullarly stuff you get from not major sources. Hell ie9 asked if I wanted to delete alone in the dark yesterday since its not a file I normally download.

If your using something like norton and it thinks the file is a virus of course your system will get messed up because norton has thrown it into a tizzy and gunked up the works. Norton is worse for a pc than a actual virus really.

But no its highly improbable your virus came from gog. This isnt joejohnsbackwatergameplace.efv or anything, its a legitimate site thats been online for quite sometime.

After seeing you saying your running windows xp thats problem number 1 really. Your OS the highest targeted OS still being used for virus's because MS no longer supports it meaning it has a ton of unpatched holes in it and its still used by over half of pc users on the net, so its still a viable target. So really you could have picked that virus up anywhere since xp has a giant bullseye on its back everytime it connects to the internet with a kick me sign stuck on top of that.

If you ever download something and unsure about it then run it through this website.

Virustotal will upload and scan any file you want and it will check it against a dozen or more different antivirus programs and give you the results of what it found. Now if you get 2 or 3 results your still fine because a lot of times some AV's will report something like a encrypted file or anything as a virus, but if your seeing a lot in the red then just avoid that file.

While XP is still a viable target since over half the computers in the world are still running it, MS has not stopped supporting it. Bug and security fixes are going to continue until April 2014; I still get monthly updates from them and in fact, they just released a massive number of security fixes a couple of days ago.
