I was thinking about the FMV days of games where everything came on silly amounts of CDs in order to fit relatively small amounts of low quality video, and this let me to wonder what the record is for number of discs in a game (excluding expansions, multiple game packs, etc).

So for this is the best I could find at 8 discs:

I could be wrong about this, but It looks like only the Saturn version was 8 disks. The PC version was supposedly on 7. That's what Wikipedia says anyway. That game doesn't interest me in the least, so I never played it, therefore I cant really confirm this info.

According to Wikipedia only the Saturn version. Not sure if I count that, but either way it doesn't beat Black Dahlia.

Everquest II had 9 discs and 1 bonus disc.

Everquest II is the new winner. I think 9 will be hard to beat.

What was the number of disc for Lands of Lore II back then?

EDIT: Never mind, just checking mobygames, it was only 4 CDs.

Apparently the "Editors Choice" version of Unreal 4 has 10 disks.

Do you mean UT2004 ECE? The original came on 6 CDs and was latter released on DVD. I didn't know you could get ECE on CDs, but I'm not sure that it would fill 4 more discs, they didn't add that much.

Edit: some research suggests that ECE was still 6 CDs (when not on DVD), but also came with 3 CDs of mods and 1 extras CD.

Depends on your definition of disk, but I did a search and found another forum with a thread asking the same thing. Someone in there said that King's Quest 5 version 5.25 had 13 floppy disks.

Edit due to quoting: Disk, disc. Another one of those words where you don't think and type the more natural sounding spelling. I blame the schools.

I played a basketball game that came on 8-12 floppies (can't remember the name).

The actual game was to guess the number of floppy that needs to be inserted next.

Disc not Disk :). It is handled quite differently as the large disk sets were almost always installed rather than run from disk. Still, interesting to know.

Largest in my collections are;
Ripper (non-functional) - 6 CDs.
Final Fantasy 8 - 5 CDs.

I have Command & Conquer: The first decade, it's 1 DVD. If it were still on CD, it'd be 12. Don't reckon that counts really, but I do have all the individual discs from each of the games.

Most I have had was Baldur's Gate + TOSC. 6 discs all up.
