Arx Fatalis, Arcanum, TESII: Daggerfall, if you're into jRPG Final Fantasy VIII (well... I played it for some part because of cutscenes :D)

Arx Fatalis, is it only dugeons or do you get to go outside? If its only dungeons are they varied enough?

Only dungeons, but I think they really are decently varied. And since it's for 6 USD, well... I spent a lots of time playing this one, lots of stuff to do :-)

if you find in budget bin Grandia II get it. it is kinda like Final Fantasy.

I'm playing through Arx, though taken a little break from it recently due to some other games, it's completely dungeon. It's ok, the control scheme kinda annoys the crap out of me, mostly with the inventory system, but even though i'm a frequent RPG'er and have played most games you have, it's not really holding my interest for some reason. I did love the Land of Lore series, the third one is crap though, stick with the first two. They're kinda dungeon crawly ala Eye of the Beholder but with actual plot, but you do have outside settings as well as indoor settings so its not all dungeon.

1) KotOR2 was never finished. It was released in pre-alpha state. It's so full of bugs and broken quests that it's unbelieveable.
2) Team Gizka will never finish their mod. Their latest progress report is from October 22, 2007. The mod is dead. Stop waiting.

and with all those missing content (bugs. not so much. Game crashed twice. first time i restarted and it worked flawlessly till second crash. took some graphic tweaking to make it work. it was at release. unpatched. patched it has no bugs) cut content, a bit shitty ending the game is one of the best games i ever played. that is the truth for me.
2)apparently they are still working on it. I don't have high hopes but aren't you a bit of full of yourself ordering me not to wait.
KOTOR2 is a great game and i really recommend checking it out.

I'm playing through Mask of the Betrayer myself for the first time right now. I'm finding its story is more engrossing than the original campaign, nor do I mind the "curse" so far. Some of the new classes are also a lot of fun.
Coelocanth--- how much RAM's on your machine? I'm running XP but currently only have 1 GB. My computer had no trouble with NWN2 original, but has bogged a bit in places with the Mask expansion. I want to get Storm of Zehir, but the recommended specs for it have been raised to 2 GB, so I'm wondering if it's time to bite the bullet and add more RAM before installing Storm of Zehir. Have you noticed much lag increase?
And back to Almak's original post... PuzzleQuest may be worth a look. If you've not heard of it, the best description is probably "a mutant meld of Bejeweled and Magic: The Gathering, only it's -good-!" There are RPG elements, the story's not earthshaking but adequate, and you can walk away from it for weeks at a time and not have any trouble picking up right where you left off. It also lends itself to being played for small blocks of time (10-15 minutes), when you don't have time or don't feel like loading up your Big Monster Game of the Moment. Replayability is also high.

I guess I jumped to conclusions then. In all fairness, I'll say that I would never have imagined that anyone would make a prominent "Progress Reports" link from their front page, and then simply stop making progress reports there without mentioning the fact on the page. All other places I've seen the same thing, the mod in question was stone dead.

When I first played through Mask of the Betrayer, I had 2 GB of RAM (Windows XP Home SP3, 32 bit). I upgraded to a 2 x 2GB kit since I got it for a steal (XP sees 3.5 GB of it) just before I bought SoZ. I found the extra RAM makes a difference (for example, loading a new area in SoZ takes me 7 seconds or less. I've read some people are waiting 20 seconds or more). If you can afford to upgrade to more RAM, it will be well worth it and just going from 1 GB to 2 GB should make a very noticeable difference.
On a side note, I'm not sure if it makes much of a difference or not, but I've also moved my page file to a separate partition on a different drive then the OS and my games are also on a different drive than my OS.

It would seem you are right. And it wasn't an order. More of a piece of advice, to prevent you from carrying around false hopes. Turns out I was wrong and they aren't false after all, so lucky you ;-)
Also, I'm prejudiced regarding KotOR 2. My experience with the game (and the completely indifferent attitude of Lucasarts) back when it was released was so horrible, that I haven't bought a single Lucasarts game since. It had bugs that were so obviously the result of simple programming mistakes, and could easily be fixed with a single line of code, and yet they weren't fixed, even when an actual patch eventually did come out. And finally, once I got through the game and experienced the "ending"... Well, let's just say that "complete lack of artistic integrity" was the most flattering thought I had towards both the developer and the publisher.

Any of you guys played Lost Odyssey? How does it hold up, any good?

I would also recommend the System Shocks as RPGFPS'.
If you can find it, I would recommend Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall from Bethesda. You get a huge world to explore, tons of skills that are useful, you get a horse AND carriage to haul off loot from the millions of dungeons. If you can't find Daggerfall, Bethesda has Arena for free somewhere.
