tejozaszaszas: Why I recommend Real Player? Because it allows you to download videos from youtube and other webs. ;-)
That's what VideoCacheView is for ;P

I use VLC as well but find myself using foobar2000 almost exclusively for music. Rips to Flac, mp3 etc has a great play list and lots of other options so . . . I will put in a plug for foobar2000 . . . =)
Personally I use Foobar2000 for music, and CCCP(media player classic home cinema) for video...

If you watch any anime fansubs, from everything I've ever read, avoid VLC like the plague =P I've used it once or twice on a friend's computer since it's what he uses, but it completely messed up the playback... I probably could have tinkered VLC into working right, but bla... CCCP just works
Downloaded Media Player Classic and will be checking it out shortly and i'll post thoughts on it once i do :)

Thanks for the recommendations so far.
I'll also look at RealPlayer if it can download videos off of the net too, lol

You did get MPC Homecinema, right? The older Classic is buggy.

Hmm, interesting. This never happened before, and I've been jumping up and down the sub/dub ladder like a fireman. Oh well, lucky I guess.

Never had that problem seriously make sure the subs are correctly formatted SRT's and in the same folder and your good to go they even show by default.

Video DownloadHelper firefox extension is better for ripping streamed media off the web. I wouldn't bother with RealPlayer bloatware.

Most anime fansubs I watch use ASS/SSA for subs and that's a good deal beyond basic SRT, and they tend to be mux'd into the video file. The couple times I used VLC with an anime it ended up stacking all the subtitles on top of each other, instead of being placed properly during the show (like karaoke softsubs during the show's intro: kanji at the top of the screen, romaji below that, and the english translation at the bottom of the screen all at once)
Just looked at Media Player Classic, it's nothing more then a music player and i'm looking for library support.

Checking out Clementine next.
Clean and simple user interface, easy to use, test Winyl!

Media Player Classic is actually pretty damn good for movies.
Clementine seems real easy and simple to use, now just to test it while running a game and other stuff to see how it works. I'm liking how it doesn't run sluggish at all, although it did freeeze on me once O.O

At the last poster who's recommending Winyl, i'm definitely checking it out, looks like it's worth trying, i dig the skins as i was really used to WMP way back then, lol.

hmm sounds like your friend is using VLC from about 2 years ago tbh they should work fine though sometimes if the default flag is set wrong you'll need to manually choose it with a right click

No doubt, but i maintain a library with hundreds of songs, so library support in my media player is an absolute must.
