FraterPerdurabo: Gothic II is a solid pick, but just as I recommend to everyone who makes one of these threads, get Tex Murphy: The Pandora Directive. Probably the best adventure game ever made. You will not regret it.

deadfolk: Is best to play the others first? I have them all, but can't seem to get up the enthusiasm to play through MM...and I'm a real stickler for going through these things in order normally.
It really doesn't matter. Basically, 1 & 2 are those oldschool ones, you know, akin to Monkey Island 1 graphics or so. I haven't actually got down to playing them yet.

3-5 use FMV.
UAKM (3) is a good game with a nice story. It's the first one in the FMV style, not all of the puzzles are great and sometimes its a bit silly. It's still a great game. I'd give it a 4/5.

Pandora Directive (4) is definitely the best game in the series. It features the best, most engaging and intelligent story probably ever told in a computer game. The puzzles are great and it tones down on the silliness, keeping a much more serious tone. It truly is a masterpiece. This was the first game that my parents ever bought me and I'm still as amazed at this gaming masterpiece as I was 15 years ago. 5/5

As for Overseer, it's not a bad game but it's definitely different than the other two. The controls have been changed to the arrow keys, for better or for worse. You decide. As for the story, it recants the tale of Martian Memorandum, I believe, and it contains some minor spoilers of the other games. I'd recommend that you play this one last. For the most part, the puzzles are very well designed and challenging (but not overly so). A minor annoyance is that it tends to turn into a bit of - look under every nook and granny and table, etc, basically asking you to thoroughly examine every room, lest you miss something. 4/5

Overall, I'd say that you can ignore 1 and 2 for now and simply play either 3 or 4. Pandora Directive truly is a masterpiece and playing it will probably make you forgive UAKM for some of its shortcomings. Leave Overseer for last.

I hope that you actually try these, you're in for a hell of a ride! :)
Built in graphics card eh? I'd go with Heroes of Might and Magic 3. It's not just the nostalgia speaking - even till today I frequently play hotseat matches with my brothers.

-edit- Ah snap didn't notice you already have it.

OH OH get Space Rangers 2. One of the best games to have made its way here to GOG. Sadly for all the praise heaped on to it, it's still not a very noticed game. It's just fucking amazing though - flawed but amazing.

Hmm...this inspired me to go back and look at the GoG page for the first two games, and it's got my juices flowing now. I loves me some old school adventure. These have officially been pushed higher up my (admittedly very long) queue. Gonna have to do it properly, I think.

I remember playing the first hour or two of UAKM back when it was first released and loving it. Still have the original CDs.
I can recommend Neverwinter Nights Diamond, too. You probably won't get any better value for money deal - buy one game, get dozens, even hundreds of them. If you're coming from Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment, chances are you'll be a bit disappointed at first because it's not isometric, you only control one character, and NWN isn't known for its good story either. The Hordes of the Underdark Expansion is quite nice though and besides, if you don't like the official campaign, you can just download one of the most popular custom adventures created by community members. Some of them are truly immersive and have outstandingly good stories that rival the best commercial CRPGs.

Another good choice that hasn't been mentioned yet is Psychonauts. The plot might seem like a hoax but the story-telling and characters are awesome, it's hilarious and full of creativity. It's definitely a good and unique game with a funny gameworld.

Yeah, I absolutely love HOMM 3. Fantastic game. However, I have never played HOMM 4. Worth getting? I've heard mixed opinions.

KingCrimson250: Hey everyone, sorry if this sort of thread is a faux pas, I'm new here.

Anyway, I've just gotten some money I can spend on GOG, and I've spent most of it with around ten dollars left, and I'm looking for some help for what I ought to spend it on.

I already own a number of games on here (AoW, SMAC, BG, MOM, HOMM, TLJ, Arcanum, I think a few more) and have just purchased Planescape, the Fallouts, Disciples 2, Tropico and Sacred Gold. I've seen a few games that look interesting - The Witcher looks fantastic but I'm not sure if my built-in laptop video card would run it.

I love any games with an impressive story, immersive world, and unique (and GOOD) gameplay. Anyone have any games to recommend for the last of my money?
Sometimes those games which are bought blinded is most perfect. I had same dilemma when I bought W2.. I had 9.99 game and 5.99. I could havo bought the obvios choises but why bother..
Haven't played those "extra games" I took enclave and and what's that one.. oh yeah two worlds epic version. i say enough baldurs gate. But gothic 2 is a good game. And perhaps that 6 dollars I used in crusader no remorse.
And indeed.. witcher 1 is truly grear game.
that's why I joined gog and bought W2 so that there could be sequel. Well.. It will sell more than dragon age 2 because people see boobs and what I have tried.. seems a fine game. But witcher 1, never gonna forget that piece of polish good gaming.

Edit: Would be sweet if original deus ex would be here. Well, Broken weord is always good if you like adventure. Didn't much understand you whit those shortenings. =)
Jagged alliance 2 is awesome.. When there is gonna be 3. And I tried it once and a millionth time.. it crashed pretty much constantly. Maybe this version is different.
If you haven't played and you own a controller.. beyond good and evil was also good.

Edit: Don't mind me about typos. i have drinked a few beers. So chill. =)

NWN is very tempting, I have to confess. Psychonauts is one of my favourite games of all time but I got that one for the PS2. Works better on the console for me. Took me ages to find it though.

The best about it is not the game itself but the ability to customize it and create your own stories, with dialogues, cutscenes etc. and a lot of talented people have done that already so there's plenty of free stuff to download for it. There's also a great modding community who has created top quality custom content like new creature appearances, new tilesets (environments) and even new rulesets and settings, like Sci-Fi. The toolset for creating your own adventures isn't that hard to learn for a beginner but quite powerful if you use it to its full extent. And you can play on several user created gameworlds online, kind of like old school D&D MMO's for free. And each gameworld or single player module could be something entirely different than the last one you checked out, so unless you hate the game engine, it might never get old and you can have fun with it for years.

So what's arcanum like? is it good? seems something different than normal baldur-clones. And does.. what was it.. Insanity? Insomnatariom.. does those work with win 7 x64?
seemed stupid AI in neverwinter but when playing witcher 2.. well, those are stupid. still I have died more times than in one. and still i have that in work in progress.. today i have mostly consuming potions which contains alcohol.

Yes, the AI actually *is* quite bad in NWN. Some community authors managed to improve it a bit by way of scripting but still, the AI is one of the weak points of the game. Didn't prevent me from having lots of fun with it though. :)

so it's a must buy sometime? so be it. In W2 I dig those traps and seems that I need to use those more often than W1. That one was so powerfull that I flamed.. I iwas 3 meters away. So.. Witcher 2, not all bad. Witcher one is indeed long or i'm picking wlowers all the time.

W2 neat game but I don't think it beats in my opinion 1.. if it does. plough me in the arse and call me lilly.
Infact.. Dragon age origin was rpg which blow others away. Now witcher 1 is that.

But must say.. it was intented for the consoles. But that way we get W3 in this lifetime. It will sell like shit. only better. =P

Would it be rude of me to anti-recommend NWN? I just am no fan of that game. It works as a platform for mods, but the game itself is terrible until the second expansion. Absolutely horrible. If you do get it, skip everything but the second expansion.

To be productive, if you're looking for RPGS, the Gothic 2 recommendation is solid. But is hard for me to get into.

Or the Broken Sword games if you do like adventure.

This a forum. So fire it on. =)
newest broken swords hasn't been what i expect. Three of them I have played. Broken sword 1 easily compares with gabriel knight and hmm.. I liked deep silvers road adventure.
