lowyhong: Dune 2000 is also quite decent, see if you can get that

I have this but cannot get it to install on Vista. Anyone gotten it to work?

JudasIscariot: Dawn of War 1. I think it only has a disk check ...also it is 40,000 years in the future....

I second this game, its simply great fun just don't bother with soulstorm. Dawn of war, winter assualt expansion and darkcrusade are all you need.
Total war series may also intrest you, the fights are like much larger scale versions of Dark Omen. They don't have the same feel as that awesome game but they can be fun.
Also what the crap guys not a single mention of starcraft anywhere in an rts thread?
Edit: Ok total war is historic but check it out anyway.

Starcraft.
Warhammer 40000: Dawn of war?

Joycey: idiot me again. sorry forgot to mention im not a fan of current time stratagy games or historic rts i much prefer futuristic or magic and wizards kind :P apologies
well, again darwinia or multiwinia are great RTS games. Also, forget about WCIII, Warcraft II is the best in the series.

captfitz: And you've got to play Age of Empires 3 for the essential, polished, and most importantly very fun gameplay it has become known for.
you sir, are retarded.
AoE II is the best, 3 is such shit it's not funny.
3 is soooooooooooooo boring.
I recommend aoe II, wololo

Starcraft - simply the best.
Also you can try Warhammer 40k Dawn of war - very nice too.
World In Conflict maybe. It gets batsh** crazy on the last mission. Make sure you have a decent PC or it will fold like a pack of cards as mine did.

- Universe at War (better than Empire at War IMO)
Speaking of that, it's GamersGate weekend deal. So you can pick it up for $4.99. might well do that myself as I enjoyed the demo. Of course, waiting to see if GOG put up a deal that tempts me more. Steam lost out this week due to their false advertising and it being Ubisoft and all =P.

Age of Mythology: epic fantasy, still looks pretty good but will definitely run on your comp, PLUS an awesome RTS. And cheap.
Glest is a cool , and decent looking fantasy RTS, and it's freeware.
Empire Earth 3 will run well on your comp and is a huge, sprawling game.
Rise of Nations and RON:Rise of Legends are awesome rts games, and you'll probably like the world-conquering metagame as well. RON:ROL might be a bit much for your computer though.

Dawn of War + all 3 expansion packs
Company of Heroes + Opposing Fronts
Maybe DEFCON too
defcon an rts? heh.
and i second World at War.
It is quite a short game but so much fun. And I heard multiplayer is a blast (literally cause you get nukes and carpet bombing)
My favorite is Dawn of War.
I can never quite tire of my spacemarines chewing up inferior infantry with massive bolter fire.
My favorites are:
Age of Empires II
Supreme Commender
Commend & Conquer : Generals & Zero Hour
Starcraft
If you like turn based I would highly recommend Civilization IV or if you have a gameboy the Advanced Wars series.

Have you tried Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns? A good game that won't strain your computer very much...
