It's that time of the year again the sun is in alignment with certain stars and im hungry for a RTS game, problem is im a bit fussy when it comes to them iv only played a few but enjoyed them endlessly
Ones iv played and loved
Warcraft 3 +TFT
Warhammer Dark Omen
Command & Conquer : Tiberian Sun
Command & Conquer : Red Alert Retaliation
Ones iv played and hated
Command & Conquer 3 Tiberian Wars
Tom Clancys : Endwar (I had mixed feelings of this game loved the combat and voice commands but for somereason it didn't push my buttons correctly and i didn't buy it)
I know not much to go on but if anyone can tell me some sweet RTS games for Xbox 360/PS3/PC id be ecstatic
Ground control 2 and Star Wars: Empire at War are great games, and you should be able to find them pretty cheap :D
Absolutely try World in Conflict for a fresh rts experience. So much fun and is just AMaZING to watch. At least try the demo, I beg you.
And you've got to play Age of Empires 3 for the essential, polished, and most importantly very fun gameplay it has become known for.
Sins of a Solar Empire. Be warned, as games can take upwards of 4+ hours. Also, Supreme Commander and Company of Heroes and Dawn of War 2. Never get RTS games on console.
As for future games, Demigod and League of Legends look verrry goood. If you're a WC3/DoTA fan, you'll love these games.
Ill also mention iv got a pretty crap PC Atm and wont be able to play games from 2003+ on it :P

I second this too. Also, RTS games that I really like:
- Universe at War (better than Empire at War IMO)
- Act of War (waaaay better than CNC3)
- Supreme Commander (I enjoyed this more than CNC3 too, but this is entirely based on individual preferences)
-edit-
ok I just saw your post above. Well you should be able to play Act of War. It's a very solid game, and it has much more in-depth strategy than CNC3 ever has. There are lots of places to ambush people, and the maps are much bigger. Plus, there are some unique features like being able to call in bombers at the touch of a button

Dawn of War 2 - but it has really stupid DRM so. Don't buy it.

OMG Act of War. I LOVE that game, too bad I can't get it on Steam in Hong Kong. The story is gripping, written by one of the best army/tactical/killing dudes authors, Dale Brown. He could totally own Tom Clancy's ass in a write-off. (Yes, I do know what a write-off actually means.)
Buy it. NOW.

Ground control 2 and Star Wars: Empire at War dont need a super computer to run :D
company of heroes is really good, same with darinia or multiwinia, I actually prefer multiwinia though.

Cool, good to see a fellow AOW fan here! AOW was severely underrated for its time, never getting the attention that it rightfully deserved. I never got to finish the game, I think I only reached the 4th or 5th level before I was enlisted into the army, but from what I've seen the storyline was definitely very intriguing

And I just saw your post above again. Hmm if you want futuristic, you won't go wrong with either Empire at War or Ground Control 2. Both very solid games. Universe at War, you may have a bit of a problem with the graficks
There's this game called Worldshift released recently too. From what I've seen in gameplay trailers, it looks pretty alright, not too shabby. Think of it as Warcraft with neater graphics and some pretty new gameplay features
And lastly, you should wait for GOG to release Earth 2150 :)

if you can find it, I would recommend Z:steel soldiers. I also seem to remember a came called conflict zone that I really enjoyed; modern combat, but you had to keep the media happy too. You could also employ AI generals to manage the base and whatnot.
Other old RTS games I've enjoyed over the years include Dark reign (a sort of CnC clone in the future with robots), total annihilation kingdoms (Total annihilation with dragons instead of robots) and battlezone 2 (A strategy/action game).
Dawn of War 1. I think it only has a disk check ...also it is 40,000 years in the future....
Speaking of Total Annihilation, you can get an open source engine/game that's built on the Total Annihilation assets
http://spring.clan-sy.com/
It's called Spring (used to be called Total Annihilation Spring). Gameplay is more or less the same, and you can download other TCs/mods
Battlezone is very very good, get that if you can (lol I stress "if you can" again), but it may not be your cup of tea since you play out the strategy portion from a first person view (I don't recall an overhead view). Dune 2000 is also quite decent, see if you can get that
Oh and EA's Command and Conquer FIrst Decade
