While in my quest to seek answers for redemption of the devil in my soul that is SecuROM, I came across this site:
http://reclaimyourgame.com
Good stuff for those who aren't too savvy about DRM and the like, since it has tips on removal of DRM and other DRM-related articles.
Every DRM hater's wet dream is detailed in that site. I don't really give a damn about DRM anymore, if it's a good game worth playing and it has some DRM I'll be happy to play it anyway, but for some this could be a godsend.

Easy to say. But when you have problems, its not that easy. I had no internet connection almost the whole day yesterday, so I was not freaking able to play a single game on Steam.
Talk about the beauty of DRM.

Offline mode always works for me.

Don't buy games from Steam = Problem Solved.

If Steam can't connect it will offer you offline mode. Should have been a bit more patient with it.

But for some reason it didn't work yesterday (this has also happened in the past, so its not just-one-case thing).
That site used to have a very nice list what games contained what DRM, but they've since dramatically cut that list down (seems they only list games containing Securom 7 now) which makes the site much less useful. It now just strikes me as mostly a site for opinion pieces on DRM with a bit of information on different DRM systems left over as a relic from when the site still was useful.

It didn't offer me any offline mode when it couldn't connect to my Steam account for three days. I left it trying to connect for 5 minutes several times, and about 20 minutes a single time. If I need more patience than that, I feel justified in saying that claims of the wonders of Steam's offline mode are dubious at best.

How long ago was that? If it's more than six months ago then offline mode didn't work at all back then.

The point is that it still has problems now and then.

lowyhong: ...

I have used that site for info in the past as well. I also have used the Daemon-Tools game database for DRM info. For some reason it looks like they have removed some games from the db over the past year . . . not sure why . . . I can't imagine why listing a game and the type of DRM it used would be a legal problem.
last time my internet went out steam wouldnt go into offline mode because it needed an update first. not that i dont like steam though i use it all the time but offline mode never works for me unless i can predict when my connection is going to go out first.

Well that's a shame. It's been pretty rock solid for me since the last major overhaul. Terrible before that, naturally.
