rampancy: In before someone accuses the GOG mods of censorship and suppressing freedom of speech.
goshdamn yuropeens always tryinto suppress my natural MURRICAN rights to free speech

No, seriously, though.
Seriously.
The mods and staff here are pretty cool guys.
Probably some of the most lax moderation I've seen on the internet while still keeping order.
They have one request.
Well, multiple, but one that's relevant to this discussion.
No swearing in the thread titles.
They haven't even really slapped our hands over this.
Honestly, I think it'd be pretty cool of us to at least do what they say.

Besides, nobody gives a shit what words you fucking say once you're in the thread. :)

Oh. My. God.

I hate that. So much. Free speech doesn't give you the right to harass people. It irks me so much. Free speech means you have the right to an opinion, not verbal assault!

Anyways, I am going to have input. I really do not know why people hate curse words so much. They're just words. Fuck, frack, frick, damn. They all mean the same thing. We all know what you're talking about. Why is it okay to say frack but not fuck if we know you mean fuck?

Just because they don't show the sex scenes doesn't mean you're going to let your kids watch it. You know it happens. You assume they might have an idea of what happens.

It just feels hypocritical.

I think it mostly has to do with a feeling of professionalism that is associated with the company rather than actual offense. While some people may be a bit sensitive to naughty potty-words, I think, in general, GOG just doesn't want to be associated as unprofessional or not worthy of doing business with. While I don't really care either way what somebody says, I could see how one could be leery of a company's professional integrity with the initial representation of the community that supports said company as immature and tactless. I suppose that's what it mostly comes down to here.

As far as other places on the interbutts, I don't really care what you say.
Just try not to be a complete dick all the time while doing so and I'm cool.

EDIT: Not that I'm disagreeing with you in regards to the possible hypocrisy in regards to how words are treated.
I actually agree with your points as a whole.

HereForTheBeer: And isn't doing so then pushing for more moderation? I thought LESS moderation is one of the things we like so much about the place. It may seem cute now, but think about what happens if people keep it up.
I personally think we need a bit more moderation. Some of these threads need to be locked so that people can have a breather.

But, more importantly, unless TET or one of the other folks is abroad, there's nobody here to moderate things when it's night in Poland. I think that's how GR's infamous smut hut thread managed to survive for over 12 hours before anybody noticed.

And, I do think there are varying views on this. I'd like to see a bit more active moderation to enforce the rules. The perception has been for quite a while that the rules won't be enforced unless you do something really bad. I'd love to see them move threads to the correct subforum and lock flamewar threads.

Thunderstone: The mods don't ask much from us, so I really don't think that cursewords should be used in a thread title. If I recall correctly I think TheEnigmaticT even said we can cuss as much as we want within reason in the thread as long as it is not done in the title. And besides, a creative innuendo gets more chuckles from me than a fuck, damn or shit. It doesn't take many brain cells to spew out profanity.
Well, mostly, we can't curse as much as we like, they just don't care about it unless it's in the title or directed at somebody. But, I'm t sure they enforce it unless it's in the title.

Or at least I can't recall the last time I saw them enforce that rule.

Do you have to use so many cuss words?

That's why I added in "within reason." I don't think T would keep a topic open if it was all about cussing, well maybe he would as long as it doesn't turn hostile. *shrugs*
They should get the web team to look into putting automatic filters for topics. That would eliminate the problem and save the mods some headaches. As long as they don't touch the actual content of the posts I don't see a problem with it. Plus it might make for some unintentional comedy, like seeing "This is a bunch of POOPIE!" for a title.

Of course, then you can get fun stuff like Scunthorpe, specialist, or Cockburn being blocked or altered into something even sillier.

It is?
I'd actually rather have level headed mods instead of all the low rated posts with the mod-by-community method that has been going on

Most likely it will edit titles and replace them with commands from the sexiest OS around
This is how I feel about this

I was thinking more along the lines of just blocking shit and fuck as those seem to be the two that cause the most problems, and are considered the worst most of the time. But yes, a bad implementation would be, well bad.

Then people probably use other variations of those words such as shite
