Great titles from Rebellion, including Sniper Elite: Berlin 1945, the Empire Earth series, Evil Genius and two Ground Control games, are available this weekend with a 50% discount.

You may have heard about a new release in the Sniper Elite series that came out today, so we thought it would be topical for you to get a look at the original game here on GOG.com for just $4.99. Unlike modern FPS games, where you just go forward guns-blazing through whichever route isn't blocked, [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/sniper_elite_berlin_1945]Sniper Elite is about stealth, patience and precision. You will have to choose the best route, avoid enemy patrols, look our for enemy snipers, wait for openings and, if an opportunity presents itself, take a shot. Make sure to give the original Sniper Elite, here on GOG.com, a test for only $4.99.

Empire Earth is the first title of an acclaimed series of real-time strategy games, bundled with the Art of Conquest expansion pack. The game is (loosely) based on actual history, starting with the prehistoric age and spanning half a million years. You can essentially create your own civilization by selecting new unit/building bonuses, epoch by epoch. Fans of the first Empire Earth game will not be disappointed with , as it both retained all the strong points of its predecessor and added a ton of new features and improvements, making the game more complex, challenging and ultimately more satisfying to play. [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/empire_earth_3]Empire Earth III, the third game in this great series, is also on sale today as well.

Ground Control looks like a real-time strategy, but there’s no resource gathering or building units; it’s more of a real-time tactics game. Instead, the game feels more like commanding an actual hi-tech army. Ground Control 2: Operation Exodus follows the path of its predecessor and forms a fast-paced tactical game which, when combined with its deep, interesting storyline, will leave you begging for more.

If you haven’t played Evil Genius, you've missed out on a truckload of fun! Featuring cartoonish design, tons of dark humor, and great gameplay, this is one game you simply shouldn't miss! You are put in the role of an Evil Genius - a criminal mastermind intent on world domination. You must build your underground lair, guard it from meddling secret agents and send your minions to perform acts of infamy across the globe. Considered by many as a spiritual successor to the Dungeon Keeper series, this game definitely showcases the quirky humor and brilliant gameplay of that series, and it’s just $4.99 this weekend!

Check all 12 discounted titles from Rebellion. This offer lasts until Monday, May 7th at 11.59 p.m. EDT.

hedwards: It's a type of RTS. You have henchmen and minions that go around doing your bidding. You build rooms for them to work in and set traps for heroes. And you send your henchmen out into the world to commit acts of infamy.

But, you only get to control your evil genius and the henchmen, the minions do whatever they please.

bazilisek: So basically a 1960s spy-themed Dungeon Keeper?
I wouldn't say that, it doesn't feel like DK to me. But, it's definitely a send up of the '60s era spy genre and if you like that and DK, you'll probably like the game.

The hesitation is that you spend a lot more time plotting than you do in DK and it's more strategy with less interaction from you.

Plus it's one long level, you move midway through the game, but you're not moving level by level like you do in DK. I love both games though.

JMich: Those of you who still don't have Evil Genius should consider buying it, it's an excellent game.
1000x this. Evil Genius is a great game :)

Yeap

Yup. It has a lot in common.

hedwards: EDIT: The one thing I hate about the game is that it's relatively finnicky, once I got things set up properly it was pretty stable, but it doesn't play nice with other programs and with dual core processors.
I've never had this problem with this game, it's always ran well across several computers. (granted not a dual core, just a triple and a six)

de_Monteynard: Two things. Wasn't there a similar promo right after the Christmas one and secondly, weren't some of these games published by Sierra, LOTR and Ground Control for example. Did Rebellion take over the respective IP or was it like this from the start?
A certain book has broken my way of thinking. Whenever I see "LOTR" I think Lord of the Rings. Took me a while to realise you were talking about Lords Of The Realm.
Hmm as an aside I had kind of avoided Lords of the Realm as I have a lot of games but now I'm tempting buy and try. Guess it does work, if GOG keeps pushing out the same sort of promos maybe some give in a buy a few more.

Guess it is time to get that digital backup of ground control...

Both are excellent games, highly recommended.

gyokzoli: I'm thinking about buying Sniper Elite but it doesn't have good average rating. Why is that? The game is really mediocre?
I really, really enjoyed the game. Didn't stop playing it until I finished. It has really good sneaking and sniping gameplay with slick graphics.

The main problem is the AI. The enemies are oblivious to your presence, but once you alert them. everyone within earshot comes running around the corner, ready to be shot.

Despite that, shooting them with the sniper is so satisfying that this shouldn't bother you one bit. I say buy it for sure!

Were those computers by any chance all running AMD GPUs? Because the problem AFAICT seemed to have something to do with the nVidia GPU I was using. But, I'd have to close down everything else and move all processes to the second processor leaving it by itself and I forget the other thing I'd have to do. It ran great after that, but it would routinely crash every few minutes otherwise. The game forum is full of people that had that sort of problem.

But, I was able to get it working properly and it rarely crashes.

Rebellion acquired the rights in 2009.

Yes, I've been using those for years now. I guess it could've been Nvidia related then. Not saying the game doesn't have a chance to crash. (There's a research bug if the item you're researching happens to get destroyed while they're still researching it and a bug if you move to the next island with too much money). Just saying I never noticed any particular problems related to hardware or other programs, personally.

I've just finished Sniper Elite a few nights ago and I loved it. Sure its not perfect, a few minor issues, but still felt it a good game to play and enjoyed it.

"Mediocre" is harsh I think...who buys a game called "*Sniper* Elite" and then runs around with a machine gun! X)

Its a good game and one that I plan on replaying in the future. Ive played better games but I've also play much worse.

At this price its a bargin.

I've pretty much learned not to buy anything from nVidia as it seems like they have more problems with that than Intel and AMD. I steer clear of Intel because they have crap performance in terms of GPU and I've already been bitten by that in the past.

Buh? I've had HORRIBLE EXPERIENCES WITH AMD VIDEO HARDWARE. Nvidia has never given me problems. :(
