With the new videos this game actually is looking a lot like a mashup of Torchlight and Crimson Alliance to me. I want to get my hands on the demo...

And can we quit with the "Diablo clone" term? ARPGs have been surpassing Diablo and Diablo 2 for half a decade or more now.

"It's just another Diablo 3 clone"?

amok: "It's just another Diablo 3 clone"?
I really expect someone to say this in an non-ironic manner soon, if they do it to my face though, I'll have to resist the urge to kick their teeth in;)

I'm sure this is going to be a great hack n'slash ARPG, but I just can't get over the name, especially the not-too-subtle attempt at a backroynm of the word "raw".

I guess all that's left is for a competing studio to come up with a rival game using the word "smackdown'.

Has any game ever tried to exploit this and come up with something silly for a name like "Slash Hack Ignite Torture" or even worse?

RAW backwards is WAR and the title is Realms of Ancient War, I actually think their acronym is a hair more clever than the average one:)

In answer to your question, though, yes, I think there's been this kind of thing cleverly inserted into games (not just their titles) for quite some time, BFG comes to mind as one of the earliest examples.

I remember hearing a rumour that one of the reasons why Ritual gave their Heavy Metal game the subtitle "F.A.K.K. 2" was so they could say "Fuck You" without actually writing it on the box.

Well, it's not like FAKK 2 was even subtle, they openly used a porn star, Julie Strain, to model and promote the lead video game protagonist. These were back in the days that G.O.D. Games was so off the wall they weren't even allowed in E3 proper, they had to set up a trailer park/carnival thing in a lot close by.

For myself, I've tried to play Heavy Metal FAKK 2 at least 2 or 3 times and never been able to get much past the first hour or two, I was always bored.
So someone thought it was a good idea to release RAW on the same week as both Borderlands 2 and Torchlight 2... yeah, epic failure.

I played the demo and there's some fun to be had there... but 15 bucks when there's still TL2 to play? No fucking way!

I predict the above statement sums up their entire, bleak financial forecast with Realms of Ancient War.

Looks like this game was a victim of poor release timing.
This looks sexy.
Thanks for this. It looks pretty sweet :D
Look ok, but lack something special to make it shine.......
This is now out on Steam at 25% off. Has anyone tried it yet? It would be an instabuy for me, except I can't seem to stop playing PoE. I'd love to know if it's any good.

I ended up getting it yesterday from GG for $4. It's very rough around the edges. Basic attack animations seem rather off when you hold down shift -- key for remaining in place, but you still shuffle forward. Hits don't always register on enemies when they are up close (and this while playing with melee character). There's also invisible walls. Lots of them. However, some of the special moves do have their own charm to them, like pulling in a bunch of enemies and stunning/killing them all in one hit. Possession is also rather fun. Oh, and the cut scenes are really crap.

I consider it worth the $4 I paid. But I'd feel rather more let down if I'd paid any higher. Ultimately, if you're looking for hack n slash/ARPG and don't have Torchlight 1 or 2 yet, get one of those instead. Otherwise, wait for a 75% off sale for this one.
