Navagon: Hi

I'm from an alternate reality where this thread isn't just another whinge about how GOG didn't manage to release a game you care about this week. In my reality we use the word "obtain" instead of "ascertained". It's strange, I know. But I think I'll go back there now all the same.
Please before you go, take me with you. That place sounds magical and unreal.

Ryan390: However why are we hosting new releases, like the latest 3?
Because GOG is in the business of selling games, and this may bring more people to the site ?

Ryan390: System Shock 1 + 2...
Repent ye, lest the exorcists be summoned forthwith !?! ☺

Ryan390: Surely releasing something like System Shock 1 + 2 would have been more logical?
Yes, it probably would have been. Unfortunately the world is not a particularly logical place.

Ryan390: Not everyone has the power to run modern day games, and what's the point?
Not everyone has the hardware to run old-day games. I, for one, have had problems running old games, and the things I have done to fix them may have violated the EULA but I have never bothered to check.

Also, there was a survey where GOG asked their community what they thought of many things, including new games. Apparently most of us either approved of the addition of new games or didn't care either way, and this is the result. That's democracy for you.

I know this doesn't really matter, but I support GOG on this. The good games of today are likely to become good old games anyway.

In my world we may be ruled by Global Godpresident Dubya Bush Jr. But there are no whinge threads on the GOG forums as Almighty Dubya got pessimists and terrorists mixed up and declared war on them.

So I believe that the pros outweigh the cons.

If this forum is any indication, I think Dubya is extremely outnumbered.
Ok, so System Shock 1-2 rights may be in some kind of legal limbo so it is hard to get the originals here easily.

But couldn't GOG make a remake of both games then? That can't be any harder than getting the originals published here, can it? I've understood GOG has connections to some real game developers, CPR or something.

They probably can't use the original name as EA is AFAIK working on a System Shock movie (Uwe Boll directs and is the lead actor too), so they should call it something like "Machinery Trauma" to avoid any confusion and legal obstacles.

Extremely. But the pessimists, being pessimists, nonetheless considered themselves doomed and their morale collapsed even before the declaration of war was finished.

pessimists losing because they were pessimists, that sounds about right.

Don't think I don't support GOG, I've purchased over 30 + titles from here now, and recommended them to many different people.

I love coming here and will always continue to do so. I expected some trolling to occur but I'll blame myself for not reading the threads before hand.

I get System Shock 2 isn't coming, I won't ask again. I was just disappointed not to see it in here, that's all, as I'm sure many of you are.. I loved that game inside and out, possibly more so that even Deus Ex or Half-Life or any other of the many FPS' I've played for that matter.

I think my questions have been answered, and then some, so thanks for taking the time to answer them, be it kind or not so. It's good to know GOG has all the support it both needs and deserves.
The new games on GOG (Machinariam, Grimrock, Trine) are very old school, so GOG's still OG, yo.

If you must play System Shock and its sequel, you can find a copy on eBay. If you don't mind not having the box, the discs alone usually go for quite cheap.

Alternatively, I saw a copy of Shock 2 in one of those EA Classics jewel cases going for $5 or so here. If you want I can mail it across to you.
I think all of those threads should be combined into one giant azzed System Shock thread. And any new ones added to it. One day it will reach from here to the moon.

Yeah I had the disc version of System Shock 2, It wasn't sold out software I think it was Ubisoft Exclusive. It installed fine but after running for about 30 seconds it crashed out. I think it runs best on windows 98 or 95. Though it should run on windows XP too. Windows Vista or 7 doesn't want to know though.
