It would mean that you won't be able to hide behind usernames and create dozens of accounts just to spam / troll certain websites and post the same, or a very similar crap, over and over again.

Ummmm, not too sure about that. What about privacy? What about censorship? What about the government sending some goons to whack you if they hear something they don't like? I'm just suggesting where something like this could lead if we aren't careful.

That gets a nope from me. I quite like not having every account I have automatically linked to me if someone searches my name in Google. The possibilities for abuse of this out weigh the uses for banning idiots from message boards.

This is a terrible idea for reasons already outlined by many and in addition to a ton of others.

Moreover, how would you implement it? Tying your name to ISPs obviously does not work and would be an appalling idea even if it did.

I don't want to make it easier for 4chan to track down and spam every account I have because of one stupid comment made with one account.

And of course there's the privacy and censorship angle. Are you sure that every web site you have an account with is something you want attached to your real name for all the world to see?

I think real name requirements should be something left to individual web sites. I for one wouldn't have minded if Blizzard successfully got its RealID or whatever it was called implemented.

Trolls are a good sign. It means we live in a free society. In a free society there will always be "dangers" and annoyances.
