It's gonna release on Steam pretty soon. What are your thoughts about it? I never played RE4. My understanding is the the PC version released several years ago was an awful port.

You think it will be well received by the critics and the gamers?
You planning on purchasing it?
Anything else you would like to add?

It will no doubt be met with admiration by glowing advertorials and countless gamers keen on buying the same game dozens of times over.

The fact that it is coming with added DRM and is only coming censored yet again in Germany just adds insult to injury.
Oh well. Doesn't look like there's much interest from the GOG members.

You think it shouldn't be censored considering German censorship laws? Or you think they should offer an uncensored version for adults using age verification?

I have pre-ordered the physical copy. I can't wait to get my fifth copy of the game! Easily my favourite of the series and one of my favourite games period.

I have always wanted a proper, high fps, "HD" version of this for my pc and I finally got it. Bring it on! :D

I didn't know there was a physical copy too. I'll bet it's only available in Europe and Asia right now. I assume Steam is required with it too?

Is it more closer in style with how the first 3 are vs the ones that came later? I've heard it's the last one before they started turning the series into just "another shooter".

Well that is a matter of opinion. I have been told by so many people that Resident evil 6 is utter bollocks. I really quite enjoy the game, it was my favourite of last year.

Resident evil 5 had some good set pieces but the co op partner and inventory killed it for me. Atleast in Resi 6 the co op partner did not get in the way AND could kill enemies.

Resident Evil 4 is quite similar to Resident Evil 6 (or Dead Space) and I personally don't think that is a bad thing. I could easily sit and play this game in one sitting, it's quite addictive and easy to get into. It's very different from the three games before hand but I don't give a shite. A bloody good game is a bloody good game. :D
I might pick it up once the price drops down to a fiver or so. I've still got the Gamecube version, but most of the time I just couldn't be bothered to get up and walk across the room to play a game when I've got all of my PC library available.

Hmm, I played RE2 a bunch of times and was hoping it was similar in style to that. I never played RE3 and heard it was boring, and never played any after 3.

The asking price is fairly cheap, so I don't know. I'm going to at least wait on some post release gameplay video. I want to get a thorough look at just how they improved it.

I watched a friend play the original PC version for a few minutes, and I thought that port was pretty sloppy, and that's not just the textures and resolution I'm talking about. I recall the config utility inadequate to say the least. The keyboard mouse support pretty bad too, or maybe it was nonexistent, I can't remember.

You never played 3?! That's terrible! Out of the original trilogy, the third game is hands down the most polished and most fun. Constantly being hunted throughout the game makes it quite an intense experience.

To be honest, if you have a sense of fun with games like Resident evil, Silent Hill, Forbidden Siren and Dino Crisis then you'll be right at home with Resident Evil 4. It is a bit more fast paced however it still has that foreboding atmosphere and absolutely no lack of weirdness in the enemies/story.

It also has a fantastic inventory system which really does not help if you have OCD.

Overall I considering it one of the best built games of all time. Sitting up there with Half Life 2 and Bioshock, it's just that well built it's just a joy to play (well unless you dislike the genre).

The original PC version should never of been released, it is an absolutely appalling port of the game. That is saying something as well as the PS2 version was pretty shoddy.

Well, it's Resident Evil 4, a game that I bought, played and completed 9 years ago. (Damn, it's 9 years already?) I found it an excellent game, though the QTEs can be really annoying at times. As for the original PC version, it looked awful without the patches and the patches themselves bumped its requirements to ridiculous levels. And despite all that, it still looked worse than the Gamecube version, on top of being constantly delayed.

The critics will like it, no doubt about that. As for the gamers, I have seen mixed reactions. While Resident Evil 4 is an admired game, there have been countless of ports through the years and there are still people who blame Resident Evil 4 for changing the Resident Evil series, with quite a few people pronouncing that it's not a true Resident Evil game. Plus Capcom's reputation isn't currently the best, what with those on-disc DLCs and constant cancellation of Mega Man games.

Personally no, I won't purchase it. I already have it on Gamecube and the extra content, while nice, didn't exactly set my world on fire. Also, I don't use Steam.

It would be interesting to see whether the game will be censored again on Germany and Japan.

I had it for my PS2, and I quite enjoyed it. It was more action oriented, but no coop crap and you still had to worry about ammo and resources somewhat (unlike 5, where you could just replay the first mission and farm Magnum ammo). I would buy a copy for PC... on GOG. Maybe on steam sale too, but that "added DRM" thing puts me off completely. We'll see.

PS: I do think RE4 is when the series went south story-wise. Before it, while convoluted, I could still see some "plan" of sorts guiding them. When I fired RE4 and I hear them say "BTW, umbrella collapsed a few years ago, no biggie" I got so annoyed I almost didn't even play the game.

Fantastic inventory is a good thing.;) I can spend a lot of time on inventories, too much time, but I still like the choice.

You're a big RE fan, then, I take it. I can tell by the enthusiasm.

I'm going to wind up letting you talk me into buying it before I do my usual homework with game purchases. :P

I started playing when the original came out and never really looked back. I make the tradition of playing Resident evil 2, 3 and 4 once a year. The only major title in the series I don't like is Resi5 which felt like a badly made light gun game to me.

Buy it! You know you want to!
