Introduction :

The history of Rayman is intertwined with the history of French developer Ubisoft , for though Rayman 1 was not the first game made by the company was the game that really designed , making it a well known and respected developer , as we note below.

Rayman created by today's most renowned employee of Ubisoft , Michel Ancel , was a game released in 1995 for the Atari Jaguar , PlayStation and Saturn , and in 1996 was also released a PC version . This is a beautiful , humorous and challenging game in good old 2D style platform that boasts some impressive technical qualities for the season : uses a palette of 16.7 million colors and has superb animation sprites ( think only comparable to his contemporary Earthworm Jim ) . The game is also famous for its high degree of difficulty (or challenge, depending on your point of view ... I prefer to see from this angle : the challenge ) .

Who is Rayman ? ? ?

The name is also the first game of its protagonist , the charismatic Rayman a character who apparently has no arms , legs and neck ( at least not in a visible manner ) , whose hair spin like a propeller and whose main weapon the shot their fists .

While Rayman 1 has been released for various platforms mentioned above , the Playstation was where the game really shined , becoming one of the most sold console and bring a large financial return for Ubisoft who thereafter turned quite comfortable industry of games .

The villain of the first game of Rayman is Mr. Dark:

The introduction of the history of Rayman is the following : Mr. Dark has stolen the Great Proton , which is nothing more than a sphere (or globe) energy that brought balance to the world of Rayman . The great Proton was guarded by Betilla , fairy, Mr. Dark to steal it . Due to the theft of the Great Proton Electoons the creatures that inhabit the world of Rayman , were scattered and imprisoned . It is up to the hero Rayman departing on your journey to recover the large Proton and restore balance to their world , however, this arduous task he will face many challenges and enemies , including the redoubtable Mr. Dark .

With the success of the first game , Ubisoft tried to provide a continued only this time with the focus on 3D . Behold in 1999 is initially released for the Nintendo 64 and the long awaited PC Rayman 2 - The Great Escape , a great 3D platform game style that later ended up also being released for the Playstation , Dreamcast and Playstation 2 ( a version with some new powers and some additional stages named after Rayman Revolution ) . Even the Nintendo DS was awarded a version of this great game in 2005 .

Rayman 2 was a landmark, being hailed by critics . Just to give you an idea , the portal IGN elected Rayman 2 The Great Escape as the best game of the Dreamcast in 2000 . 's Game was also a great sales success and Ubisoft has even more known and respected , and increase pretty profits the firm could then expand further in the gaming market .

Michel Ancel , with this game , was elevated to the status of genius (which would later be proven with the also fantastic Beyond Good & Evil ) .

Rayman 2 besides being set in 3D brought a nice novelty : Globox , Rayman 's best friend and also , in the opinion of this humble user retroamigo and yours truly , one of the best and funniest sidekicks in the history of videogames. Globox has two main qualities : his enormous cowardice and extreme loyalty to Rayman .

The introduction of the history of Rayman 2 - the Great Escape is: robot pirates from outer space, under the leadership of Admiral fearsome Razorbeard invading the world of Rayman and detroem the 'Heart of the World' , the heart ( core ) of world and break even enslave the inhabitants of the world of Rayman , including himself who ends up being thrown into a dark chain of parent Razorbeard vessel , the Buccaneer . However , Globox , Rayman loyal friend , comes to meet him and helps him escape , but the escape was through clumsy ...

To defeat the pirates and robots restore the balance of your world , Rayman must meet again 1000 lums ( 800 in the PS1 version ) which are small " fireflies " yellow (which ended up being dispersed during the invasion of pirates ) and which together constitute the World Heart and also must find four special masks which will awaken a powerful being called Polukus . During his journey , Rayman will have the help of Ly , the fairy ( originally imprisoned ) , Murphy ( green fly) and some other characters , apart from his faithful friend Globox .

Rayman 2 has graphics, level design and great gameplay . The story also unfolds in a very nice way and the difficulty level can be said to be balanced. Moreover , the game is filled with several mini -games , and the PS2 version there is a tournament in which players are the many puppies Globox (not sure if this mini -game exists in other versions ) .

With the success of Ubisoft Rayman 2 course planned a sequel this time focusing on the islands of 128 bits and behold, in 2003 the third game of the series , titled arises: Rayman 3 - Hoodlum Havoc was released for the Playstation 2, Game Cube , Xbox , PC and GBA and also for NGage portable .

The introduction of the history of Rayman 3 is as follows : a red lum named Andre turns to evil , losing his enlightenment and becoming ugly to look like a nasty black big fly . When playing other red lums , André also ends up corrupting and creates an army ( the Hoodlums title ) stealing pet hair and weave "garments " , giving them a strange appearance of hooded humanoids who use firearms and with the objective spread evil in the world of Rayman . Accidentally , Globox ends up swallowing Andrew and then part with Rayman Globox ( André and the evil inside him ) on a journey to rout the army of Hoodlums and save your world again .

The big difference Rayman 3 for its predecessor is the presence of power- ups accessible temporary duration Rayman through special cans scattered throughout the game . There are 5 power- ups in total: the first one makes Rayman shoot small tornadoes that help you " unscrew " platforms and decrease the size of their enemies , the second is to use a claw Rayman allowing him to grab " rings " and floating also electrify their enemies , the third gives Rayman the ability of a super punch that breaks doors with ease , the room allows Rayman to control a missile ( looks more like a rocket ) remotely and the fifth and last is a hat - helicopter assists Rayman achieve greater heights . Another difference with the second game is that Rayman can collect jewels and increase your score in a Combo system.

In my opinion, Rayman 3 is a platform game in the style very nice, fun and underrated ( underestimated ) that ended up not having the same success of sales in the second game , although it has many fans around the world as the present writer .

An interesting curiosity is that Globox in Rayman 3 is voiced by John Leguizamo ( the guy who did Luigi in Super Mario Bros. movie . ) .
I doubt Rayman is mascot of Ubisoft,... that honor is taken by Uplay ... maybe Assassin's Creed.

ps. John Leguizamo has a lot more better credits then being in that "super mario" movie (though it is game related.... in name only).

Rayman may not be the most recognizable of the Ubisoft franchises, these days, because most gamers want to be "mature" and elitist, therefore refusing to play platformers, labeling them as "baby games", but it still is the closest character they have to a mascot. Here in Portugal, when Rayman came out on the PSX, it was critically acclaimed and for many years it was the de facto mascot, not only of Ubisoft, but of the PlayStation, to an extent (along with Crash Bandicoot).

I fail to see how Assassin's Creed in itself would function as a mascot, since it has multiple protagonists; a more sensible recommendation would be Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher or the Rabbids (of Rayman Raving Rabbids fame). But since the latest Rayman games have been met with high praise, I'd say Rayman is far from being dead, and still very much Ubisoft's mascot.

As for John Leguizamo... yeah, really good actor with a whole lot of better options in his filmography, to choose from, than that laughable attempt at a video game movie.
