IGN has been doing a "cheers and tears" article periodically, putting the spotlight on the 5 best and worst of a particular genre or series.
Hence, it was with much predipitation I clicked on the "RPG: Cheers and tears" link today. Would IGN get it right, or would they suggest Fallout 3 is TAH BEST ERR PEE GEE EVAR?

Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Mass Effect are all in the 5 cheers. None of those are even remotely worth cheering for. Mass Effect isn't even a proper RPG, it's a RPG/FPS hybrid. If you've got Mass Effect in there, then Diablo 2 should be up for contention too.
The titles in the tears section are mostly obscure, except Gothic III. I agree that the original release was too bug-ridden to be playable, but apparently IGN hasn't quite registered that things are much better now with the latest community patch - it's certainly not down there with Pompolic!
Basically, the entire article could be renamed to "Which RPGs sell the most !?!11!+1?" Where is Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer? Where is The Witcher?
IGN just lost the last drop of credibility I was willing to admit I thought the site had. Game "journalists" making lists like this should be fucking ashamed.

A long time ago, when people still read GamePro, there used to be LamePro every April Fools, and it would just mock IGN all the time, saying stuff like IGNorant and other stuff like that. I always hated IGN, mostly because they're just a bunch of kids with computers and know how to type (a bit like UGO) and it seemed like all the games that they claim are good are the ones that you see idiot 360 teens are jumping the bandwagon on.

At least 3 titles that were big console (yes, also PC) releases, and a tears section of lesser known titles... I think that says it all. It does remind me why I don't bother with such lists off such sites.
Comments are interesting, quite a bit of love for 'The Witcher' and other titles.

IGN is crap on just about every level. The site design (if you can call it that), the obvious corruption in the half arsed features and reviews and the broken content/buggy coding.
Personally, I like Fallout 3, but I know full well that none of those games belong on that list.

They have Eternal Sonata in the top 5 Playstation 3 games... I know PS3 may not have alot of rpg's for it but that is not a top 5 game.

It seems like a reasonable list of the best RPGs of the last 5 years to me. Though I agree the Witcher should have been up for contention...
I know everyone here loves to hate on Oblivion and Fallout3.. but it's not like old-school RPGs are growing on trees these days.

It's an opinion piece. Unless you think they're actually lying about their choices, credibility doesn't come into it. Some people liked five RPGs more than you did. Christ, get over it.
Also, I still harbour a deep suspicion that Neverwinter Nights 2 was a genre parody.

I don't know, IGN still is really really shitty, but UGO is worse because nobody ever goes there anyway.
