Alpha Centauri is in a league of its own. Definitely!
Each civ has something unique. Even the first one! Civ4 at launch was also a big disaster, especially on the tech part. But after a couple of patches, everything fell in place. Once Civ4 got the expansions out, it became, arguably, the best Civ game so far. Civ5 kind of followed that trend, but it failed big time in one place: the AI. The AI got better, but it's still a far cry from Civ 3 or 4. Maybe ( a part of me still hopes ), the AI in Civ 5 will be improved in one final patch. Civ 5 proved in the end to be a better game that was initially: took a lot of time and two expansions to get there. But now, it's fun enough to play. Still, not that magic " one...more...turn" feeling.
