Looking for an audiobook version of Douglas Adams Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

Everywhere I look, it comes in abridged. I hate abridged. Abridged is an abomination.

Will keep looking, unabridged must be out there somewhere. Until then I've got the BBC dramatization and paper book.
that sucks, i really hope you manage to find the full version!
Douglas Adams wrote everything for radio, even when he wrote The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy as a television show, he apparently wrote it for the radio in his script then had to work it for the television show.
So I would say if you want the best version of his work that is not written you should always try and get the radio plays then just someone reading the book straight.

I love Douglas Adams' work in any form I can get it. :)

I've got the radio programs for Hitchhiker's Guide and Dirk Gently, as well as the TV series and books. Audio books when I can find them unabridged, and they can be as entertaining as a radio program, if the reader is good.

I've been wanting to re-read Holistic Detective Agency for awhile, and was hoping to find a digital audiobook to take to work with me (listening is kinda like reading), but no luck. :( The abridged is read by Douglas Adams, which could be an interesting listen, but the idea of spending money on a chopped up story makes me cringe.

Actually, thats because it was firstly a radio drama.

D: If that is true, I do hope that gets remedied soon. An unabridged version read by Stephen Mangan would be perfect!

I actually preferred Harry Enfield

Or him.

I enjoyed both in the role, so either one would be good. :)

Well, Mangan is definately more the "One Trick Pony" of the two in terms of acting ability - Enfield on the other hand is something else entirely... in fact, I should have mentioned his TV show on that other thread!
Another grumble about a different audiobook.

Why can't I get the digital version of Harry Potter read by Stephen Fry in the US? Not that Jim Dale is a bad narrator, I just would like to hear Stephen Fry's take without going through some annoying workaround to get a legal copy.

It's not just Harry Potter books, I've come across other books that have different narrators.

I"m sure there's some kind of annoying, copyright legal mumbo-jumbo behind the separate versions, I'm just not getting the why for it.
