I'm in no way shape or form a fan of racial bigotry especially since I was target by racist ghetto trash of various races (except Asian) for being part-Asian back in grade school but I will say that people are overreacting to this sports team owner. There have been plenty of racist rhetoric thrown around primarily at white people by non-whites and nobody goes on about it. Just look at how Oprah Winfrey accused older white people of racism just because many older white people don't approve of Obama's policies and then wished they would die. In other words, double standards are alive and well.

I will also say that while racists are dumb for being racists, you don't have to be a racist to get accused of being one nor to get treated as such. People technically much have the right to be racist otherwise people can lose their jobs and their freedoms because of wrongful accusations of racism. I've seen enough false accusations and damages caused by them to know that wrongful accusations of racism are worse than actual racism.

The following pretty much sums up my thoughts:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B58lRPuv9uo&list=UUFa_paUy6F2IMpUOtgZA1fg

I will also say that I find it funny how people go on and on about that owner's racial remarks but said nothing about him cheating on his wife with a woman young enough to be his granddaughter.
I care because:

1. I love basketball;
2. I like the NBA;
3. I have always thought the guy was a dirtbag, as others have said, he has a bad history; and
4. I don't like rich jerks.
its good that he was banned. It wouldv been better if he was banned in review of his various injustices throughout the years, and not just for the comment. It sets some weird precedent..

Bicro: Rich people problems.
You are a disgusting shitstain.
One of Sterling’s property managers testified about an elderly tenant, Kandynce Jones, paralyzed and legally blind. When Jones’ run-down apartment was flooded, she asked for repairs and reimbursement for damages. “Is she one of those black people that stink?” Sterling replied. “Just evict the bitch.” There were no repairs; Jones lived without a shower or a flushing toilet, and she died of a stroke before the Housing Rights Center won its lawsuit. Sterling told another property manager that he knew discrimination was wrong, but because he was the owner, it was his right.
I'll just leave this here.

jjsimp: So far it has been a pretty clean thread, IMO. My original post got downrated, but it was probably deserved by my subject line. I don't care about my rep or being downrated.
I was wondering which thread the downvoting was coming from. Found it. :P
I just found this thread. I've been extremely upset with this guy and am very, very pleased that he has been fined and banned for life. I'm angry with this disgusting racist and am so angry that I just noticed I'm pounding the keys on my keyboard. He has a history of racism and FINALLY (excuse me for yelling) has been caught up with.

I'm a firm believer that every single time racism shows its ugly head, the line in the sand has been crossed, we must be gladiators and step up to the plate. Ignoring such behavior is dangerous for a whole, complete and civil society.

I'd like to know who the Air-heads are who were going to honor with with an award !!!!!????

wasnt the lil fucker having this in his private conversation, hell even obama probably split out shit sometimes.
From comments I've been reading here and elsewhere, it seems to me that freedom of speech doesn't mean much to people any more. If they can fine, ban, or fire someone for their beliefs (no matter how extreme or intolerant) how far away are we from putting people in jail for their beliefs or speech? Oh, that's right, they do that already in some European countries, the middle east, and in China.

The best way to handle something like that is let the free market decide. If everyone thinks the guy is a racist jerk, don't buy tickets and go to his team's games, don't buy his team's merchandise, and let his company wither on the vine. Eventually he'll get the message and retire or sell. Banning him from the sport or throwing fines at him does nothing for smoothing over racial tensions, and only increases the threats that we all face from the intolerant majority. How long ago was it that the majority decided that blacks couldn't eat at white restaurants or date white people or even sit with white people in church? Was that right? No. At the same time, it's also hypocrisy to claim to defend racial equality by refusing to allow others have their own viewpoints. And again, political correctness has done nothing to solve racial or ethnic problems, it only brushes them under the rug.

This is also divide and conquer tactics at its finest. That economy that teeters on the edge, that little blow up in the Ukraine that threatens to erupt into world war three? The never ending attack on our liberties and privacy rights by government? Yeah, those aren't important issues, let's just spend all our time arguing over stupid words from some stupid basketball owner.

I don't know about that but I'm glad racism still means a lot to many people.
Freedom of speech is one thing but freedom of speech with complete ignorance is another. You can't have every person in the world just spew whatever they want and hide behind the "freedom of speech" label. Thats what the internet is for, not the real world.
Ignorance breeds hate. The worst thing good people can do is stay silent about it so the hateful can have their freedom to breed more hate.

So freedom of speech as long as you don't say this or that? That doesn't sound like freedom of speech to me. :)

I can see you don't believe in freedom of speech. Your post basically translates to the pic attached below...

I do believe in Freedom of Speech. I don't believe in spewing hate.
Who cares??

I dunno, but I'm guessing those on the receiving end of such bigotry and hate might have a care or two.

Oh, and freedom of speech means freedom from sanctions from the government for speech. It doesn't mean not being held privately responsible for the things you say. Including loss of job, more speech directed back at it, loss of privileges, etc. The NBA and Clippers are a private firms, and like any other private firm can sanction their own employees for speech they don't like. Just like if one walks into his bosses office and says "You're a complete asshole, idiot, and overall nitwit not worthy of life" one can expect to lose his job too. Same if he says it about his boss in his own home in some sort of manner that the boss gets wind of it (such as on social media).

Someone said he was fined and being fined for saying something goes against freedom of speech because only the government can fine you. If he wasn't fined but just fired or banned or whatever then obviously none of his rights were messed with.

Okay, we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one.

Like your new avatar. Or, at least, it's the first time I noticed that one.
