Artists should never be remembered for when or how they died, they should be remembered for their work and contributions to their medium. I refuse to grant this day any special significance, I'd rather remember with respect August 21, 1990, the day Facelift was released and we all heard Layne's vocals on "Man in the Box" for the first time. Rock music changed for me that day.

I am a new Alice in Chains fan and I agree with Cogadh, they should be remembered for their music so they live on forever. And we all know the crazy bitch Courtney Love killed Kurt Cobain.

Hey, I agree with you too, but on the other hand, I also think Kurt Cobain was a no-talent hack and is only getting respect because he died before anyone else realized how bad he really was.

While I liked both and respect them as artists, I think Layne's voice was a masterpiece. Kurt had decent vocals for a slurred singing genre, but Alice in Chains was/is and always will be the greatest grunge band of all time.

For the LIFE of me I could not get into Nirvana, I mean I love similar music but just that one band, no matter how much I tried to force myself to listen just got more and more annoying. Every one of their songs basically sounded the same, Kurt mumbling and all. But Rohan is right, they are the best grunge band. I was a fan since the first time I listened to "Man In The Box" and "Them Bones".
But now old school Death Metal on the other hand, is awesome. (Look up a band called Death and a song called "Spiritual Healing" or "The Philosopher" and you will see the light)

Same here, i can admire someone for the music/art/movies they create, but when i hear about the way some of them go, that makes me wonder if they are actually worth the trouble, i mean drug overdose? Come on, that's a shitty as hell way to kick the bucket.

Spoken by two people who obviously do not know the difficulties of dealing with mental problems, extreme creativity, the pressures of fame or addiction. People like Layne and Cobain may have self-destructed, but don't discount their contributions based solely on that fact. In addition, pray that you or any of your loved ones never have to deal with anything like that. Frankly, if I were in that situation, I certainly wouldn't want either of you in my circle of friends and family, you offer the kind of support that leads to overdoses and suicides.
