I got Dungeons of Dredmore wih the HIB, and I really like it but I haven't played it a lot yet. I noticed that by now it's been updated to 1.1.2 and there are three expansion packs for it already. They aren't available from the Humble Store, but at least from Desura and apparantly as standalones without requiring the client, too ( "Realm of the Diggle God" for 2.49 EUR, "Conquest of the Wizardlands" for 2.99 EUR and "You have to Name the Expansion Pack" for free).

1. Now, if I'm not mistaken, all of these should work perfectly with my 1.1.2 version from HIB, right? I just unzip them to the game's main folder and that's it?

2. What did you think of the expansions? Are they worth getting at these prices? Is it recommended to install them all at once, even if I haven't played the base game a lot yet? Or does anything speak against using them right from the start? Do they make the game more (or less) balanced, challenging, fun etc.? Can you toggle them on and off in the game menu? Or just rename their folders to temporarily "remove" them? Or would there be no reason for that in the first place?

3. Does anyone know if more expansions are still planned or was that it?

I can't answer question 1, but as for question 2:
Yes, I do think they are worth the price. The first expansion adds more levels to the dungeon, and a good amount of new skills, which all feel unique and interesting. The second payed for expansion adds new creatures existing dungeon levels, and again a plethora of new skills. The free one is free, and just adds more things, so get it. You don't need any of the expansions, but they do add to the longevity of the game.

Though do note that Dungeons of Dredmor is supported by Steam Workshop, so unless you really dislike steam, I would recommend playing the steam version, for modding convenience.

All 3 expansions are great:
-Realm of The Diggle Gods add 5 more dungeon floors, new enemies, new floor layouts, assorted stuff, and 6 new skills (Emomancy, Big Game Hunter, Killer Vegan, Werediggle, Pirate, Demonology).
-You Have To Name The Expansion Pack is free and adds 4 new skills (Clockwork Knight, Rogue Scientist, Battle Geologist, Warlock) and a bunch of assorted stuff
-Conquests of The Wizardlands add 6 new skills (Bankster, Communist, Egyptian Magic, Magical Law, Paranormal Investigator, Tourist), new enemies, two new alternate realms (Diggle Hell and the Wizardlands), and assorted stuff.

Gaslamp has started working on their next game, so support for Dredmor will likely be slowing down. I'd guess they might release another free one that polishes mod content like YHTNTEP.

What does dungeon levels mean exactly in DoD, given that it's a rogue-like with randomly created levels? Does it just mean the game is prolonged and it takes longer to reach the boss or do the new levels also have a unique design and stuff that hasn't been seen before, new tiles etc.? How many levels does the base version of DoD have?


. Well, I do prefer to have DRM-free versions that I can archive for myself for future uses and that would work both offline and without being dependent on third party clients or support.

If I do get a clean backup copy like that, I don't necessarily mind also playing on Steam, but I don't like to be restricted to it. But perhaps the Steam version is essentially DRM-free, too? If it just adds a folder like "Expansion 2" to my game folder, could I zip and backup that folder with the same result as buying the zip from Desura, and then also use it with my DRM-free HIB version?

Are you saying I'm missing out on modding content if I get the Desura version, or just that it's more covenient to have Steam install mods for me, but that I'd be able to do it manually with my DRM-free version, too? And are there any good mods out there, can you name a few examples?

Each floor has a theme, with a unique tileset and unique enemies. There're 10 levels in the base game, RoDG pushes that up to 15, adding 5 more floors with accompanying enemies and pushing Dredmor down to Floor 15. You can turn it on or off before you start a game, though.

I don't know if most modders upload their mods to alternative sources as well, or just stick with uploading them to Steam Workshop.

As for good mods, I would recommend "Death by a Thousand Taunts", which adds plenty of new taunts to the enemies (the amount of taunts in the core game is rather low, and while it is just a minor part of the game, it does get a bit annoying to read the same line of text over and over and over again).
Another one worth a look is "Compleat Essential Skills", which just adds 10 new skills to the game.
Also "More Dred (Item Pack)" will add, well, more items. That is always a nice thing.
And finally "Jay's Mega Phoneme Mod", which adds more names to things.

On Gaslamp's forums I stumbled across two comments by Technology Director Nicholas:

I don't believe they are (at least in-game, you can probably futz around with files), but none of the other ones would really need it, since they basically add more, whereas ROTDG changes things a bit (since Dredmor's found lower).

It is sorted, Dredmor is on 1.1.2 on Desura.
