Ok, I just got a Nexus 7 for Christmas from a business that we work with. When I started it to check it out, I couldn't quite figure out it's purpose except for focing you to create a google account. I already found out that FlashPlayer doesn't work, so appearently not for that I'm assuming. So my question does anyone know what it's good for? What can it do? I don't want to create a google account if I won't use it, so any info would be appreciated.

[Edit] I never used google account, so I have no clue about any features accociated with it or how those work.

I'm sure there is plenty of things it can be used for, I'm just trying to figure out if they are things I would actually use. If not then I could pass it on to a family member who would get more enjoyment from it. Without the google account I can only surf the web with it from what it seems, so I can't really check out the rest. Which is why I asked about it here.

You will need a Google account to get apps from the Play store, so without one you are restricted to what it came installed with.

Do you know what kind of apps are in the Play Store eg. business oriented or entertainment oriented? Are there apps for using pdfs or Adobe Digital documents on the Nexus? Can I transfer my own documents from my computer to the Nexus?

I use my tablet (not a Nexus 7, but it's also Android) for reading books, reading interactive or illustrated books to my 3 year old, to play with him educative games that teach him how to read or write (actually, for a little kid this is an awesome educative tool).
I also use it to work: sometimes I need to read stuff, so I use the tablet to do it more comfortably. I also use it to edit text, but only when it's a final revision and I don't need to change many things (if I need to write a lot, then I use the laptop).
I use it to sign my invoices.
I play games at the restroom (a tablet is the perfect restroom companion; magazines are antiquated as far as I am concerned).
I use it to check the map when I am looking for a place (more comfortable that the little screen of my phone).
I use it to watch pictures or play with them by editing with one of the many apps available. I also use it to show pictures to my friends (mostly of my kid, of course).
It's my alarm clock; it wakes me up playing different kinds of music.
It lets me know when I receive email, so I don't need to turn on my PC to check.

I love my tablet. It's like the magic book I used to dream with when I was a kid. Lots of fun.

Yes, there are, and yes, you can transfer your documents to the Nexus quite easily. Do you use Dropbox? Or SugarSync, Skydrive, or any of these services? They have Android apps.

Great. The Internet clued into what I have been looking at. Every ad I see is for the Nexus 7 and now I want one but I can't. I covet your sexy tablet. I hope the two of you are happy together.

It's useful for gaming, for web-surfing, for reading (pdf, books, manga, etc.), for simple document editing, for note taking, for navigation, and so on.

Gaming includes plenty of emulators, dosbox ports, Scummvm, strange interesting experiments like Winulator (Windows 98-to-Android converter), etc. Native gaming is not bad too. It's a good idea to grab some of them now, during Christmas sales -- for example, today there are one-day 85%-off sales of Dead Space and Need for Speed: Most Wanted, or 75%-off Another World sale.

Flash Player _do_ work on Nexus 7. Just download apk from e.g. that xda-developers thread -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1848508 and side-load it (there is even a video instruction how to do it). Look for business apps in business category on Google Play. There are plenty of PDF readers, including official Adobe Reader, or a very good ezPDF reader. You can share files using every imaginable way -- from Dropbox to bluetooth.
