I own an iPad for reading books in bed, so I guess that means it has OSX on it. Does that mean some of these new Mac games for GOG would work on it (like the DOSBox ones), or would they only work on an actual computer?

iOS is not OS X, and neither runs applications built for the other platform.

I'm afraid iPads don't run Mac OS X, they run the iOS, as do iPods and iPhones. I'm sure you would be able to run OS X on an iPad in some way if you had the know-how, but it probably wouldn't work very well. Hope I helped!

To be fair iPhone OS, as it was called back when the iPhone came out, was based on Mac OS X, so that could explain the confusion. But no, iOS does not run OS X application and vice-versa. There might be a way to install DOSBox on a jailbroken iPad, but it won't be straight-forward, it won't be supported by any company and it would break the waranty of the iPad. Plus controls would be horrible since DOS was ment to be operated with keyboard and occasionally mouse.

That's a big if.

You'd need to hunt down (or build - which would require hunting down the source code for the system, though part of it is open-source, much is quite proprietary) a version of OS X for the ARM variant that Apple uses in their mobile products rather than x86_64 which they use in their computers.

After that, it'd simply be a matter of recompiling DOSBox and ScummVM for your new shiny OSX/ARM, most likely adding a few lines to the source along the way. But if you manage the first hurdle by modifying and rebuilding the OS, you'd likely be able to do this in your sleep.

I agree. There would be crap ton of games available if I could use the iOS app store for OS X. The good news is the Mac app store is growing every day.
