I know next to nothing how android games work so I need your help. I want to make a gift for my friend and she loves board games. She has a few digital versions (those that are free) and likes them a lot too. So I thought about buying her a few digital board games. Talisman got my attention because we played tabletop version together when we were younger. As far as I understand I should buy the base game from Google Play and then expansions are available as in-app purchases. And here is my problem: what if my friend changes her smartphone? (and she does so pretty often) Will those expansions carry to the other device or will she have to buy them again? I know that every application that you buy via Google Play is available for you even if you change your device but I'm not sure if it's the same for in-app purchases. I would really appreciate your help!

Not hundred percent sure here, but as I understand it even in-app pruchases should be tied to the google-play account. At least that is what I heard from others, but you should probably wait for someone to confirm this, since I never actually tested it, since I am not playing on my phone :-)

Dug around, found this. Maybe it'll be of help to you.

I've found an article that says that as a rule of thumb expansions, full games and extra levels are tied to your google play account. The problem is that I, as a rule of thumb, don't buy anything I'm not certain about ;)

Thanks a lot but... maybe I'm paranoid but I still see now way to determine which purchases are managed and which are not. I guess I can safely assume they are managed but I can't be really sure.

On the other hand I don't like what I see (and I'm not talking about Talisman only). Some expansions are more expensive then the base game! That's ridiculous! But I guess it's "welcome to in-app purchases world". I think I'll search for games without that feature...

Probably for the best. Just got done looking at their site and it's 71 dollars when you add in all the DLC, which is obnoxious enough, but when you add in the statement "DLC made later will be included in the season pass", it all puts up a series of big red flags.

Yeah but Season Pass is only available for PC (Steam to be more exact) and for Android so I can't even get that one. Furthermore I see that it's usually 1$ for a new character and 5$ for a new level (with some new characters as well) . I mean WTF?! Selling characters separately?! I do remember this game from 90s, you had to buy expansions but each of them included a new level and a lot of new characters to play. Nobody was selling new characters separately! That's just ridiculous so I'm officially done with Talisman. Now I just have to find something without those terrible IAPs...

Okay, you're right, that makes it even more garbage.
Seems like a lot of Games Workshop properties aren't really coming out with great digital versions....
I have the base version of Talisman on android as I got it for free (well, I got the voucher I bought it with for free). And it is quite fun. I haven't even looked at the DLC stuff and wouldn't even consider buying any of it.

Another one I could recommend is Carcassonne, it has got extra content, but no idea how much it costs. But it is good fun.

I don't know if the app is good, but if it is like the board game I can also recommend Carcassonne!

Never played the actual board game, but it seems to be a faithful recreation.

Yes, that's the one I had in mind too. Every time I come back to my home city we play it a lot with my friends. But I think she might not need it because I'm fairly sure they are playing Carcassonne pretty often when I'm not there. That's rather a game I would like to have myself because I have no one to play with.

The thing is we h had (well, actually I still have it!) every single expansion that was released in Poland so our expectations might be a bit higher. Spending a lot of money to to complete the set and all possible characters (there are a lot of them in tabletop version) is not an option so I think I'll pass.

I can certainly understand that. I'm not really a fan of any game where extra content ends up more expensive than the actual game. Having never played the proper thing I'm happy enough with the limited version I got for free and never intend to spend a penny more on it.

Yeah, you have to draw a line somewhere. I usually don't mind paying for expansions. But charging extra for one character is a type of business I'm not willing to support with my money.
