Wasn't there one aspect setting for fullscreen and one for windowed? Too lazy to check it myself right now, but I seem to vaguely remember it that way. But having a second pair of eyes look at it won't hurt either way. :)

Not in my config files. ;) From my experience, windowed mode and fullscreen share the same aspect setting. This is the reason I'm confused...

Driver updating only takes a couple of clicks. Grab the AMD Driver Autodetect. It will download the correct driver and get everything updated in just a few steps. You don't need to change anything, just keep clicking Next or OK or whatever until everything finishes.

I have no clue how to rename the extension. I think I know why that one has two "aspect" settings though. I think it has to do with GOG's Graphics Mode Setup menu that they started including with their DOS games cause when I changed the "Keep Aspect Ratio" option there, the first "aspect" setting reverted back to "false". The additional "aspect" setting seems to appear under "usescancodes" in the "[sdl]" settings. Also, there appear to be TWO config files for Alone in the Dark, the one titled "dosboxAlone1" with the extra "aspect" and another titled "dosboxAlone1_setup" with just one "aspect". Again, I think the additional config file is related to GOG's Graphics Setup Menu. At least that is what i'm guessing from all this.
I thought I also had to uninstall and clean out the old driver or something before updating. That was the part I was squeamish about.

You might be right, I'd still like a look if it's possible though.
By changing the extension, I literally mean changing the copy's name from blahblahwhatever.conf to blahblahwhatever.jpg. This will allow you to attach the file to your post so I can download it and have a look.

I don't know how to change the extension. I tried "Rename", but then it just reads as "dosboxalone1.jpg.conf". I assume that's not it.

No, but you're nearly there, you just need to delete the .conf bit. ;)

It's a configuration file for DOSBox, which is both free and open source. I don't think you could possibly be violating anything by uploading it.
If you're uncomfortable with the idea though, that's ok. I was just curious, it doesn't really matter.

Incidentally, it sounds like you have your computer set not to show the actual extension if it's still opening in notepad.

Yeah, tried to upload it, but it said it was the wrong file type. Any idea how I change the extension? I apologize for my slight inexperience with this stuff, lol.

There's an option called something like 'hide extensions' which is probably turned on on your computer. Unfortunately I can't remember how to get to it in Windows XP.
If you're interested you can google it, otherwise you might as well leave it. Don't go changing things purely for my benefit anyway!

I'm surprised to discover that it's the first aspect setting that's the extra one. There's not usually one in the first section.

It should be safe to delete the first aspect setting, but leaving it shouldn't cause problems as long as you set both to whatever you want. True, true or false, false.

Well, it seems the extra one should remain "false" as I think it controls the Keep Aspect Ratio option in the GOG's Graphics Setup Menu. Turning that option on seems to make the image stretch even if the second "aspect" is set to "true" I noticed. Interesting stuff though.

The GOG setup thing is actually a tool for configuring DOSBox, but it doesn't include all the options (like fullscreen resolution, which should be set to 0x0 by default IMO because rather than specifying a particular resolution, 0x0 simply means 'whatever the user's desktop resolution is'). It's less a case of the extra aspect= option controlling the GOG setup and more the other way around. :P

I think the reason there's an extra one is that the GOG setup thing doesn't place it in the same location as the default.
