hansschmucker: Just wondering why you're replying in mock-German when neither of the people you're talking to is German.

JudasIscariot: Because I get bored with typing the usual English everyday....

OK, then you'll get a free lesson:
get = erhalten
my = mein or meine, depending on the noun being male or neutral (mein) or femaile (meine).
invitation = Einladung (female)
So it would be
"Erhalten meine Einladung", well not quite.
The verb has to be put into the correct form and time: There are two ways here: Simple past and Present perfect. A German would use the present perfect in this case (it's more common in everyday talk, past is more or less reserved for stories). In German you form the present perfect by prefixing a form of "sein" (to be) or haben (have), depending on the verb. "Erhalten" is formed with "have". So it would be something like:
"Haben erhalten meine Einladung", except that "haben" has to be put into first person (after all, the full sentence would be "I got my invitation", we're just using a short form here). The first person form of "haben" ist "habe"
"Habe erhalten meine Einladung". Except that in present perfect, the main verb moves to the end of the sentence:
"Habe meine Einladung erhalten"
:)

It's almost as bad as Finnish
Hell its NEARLY as bad as ENGLISH!

Well, almost. I don't think our pronunciation rules are quite as bad. After all, in English you could write "fish" equally well like this:
ghoti
gh as in "enough"
o as in "women"
and ti as in "nation"

This is probably your point, but im pretty sure ghoti would be pronounced goatee. which makes you a fish face. LOL YOUR A FISH FACE!

Hopefully not. Anyway, the point is that every language has its problems.
German: definitely the grammar. Pronunciation on the other hand is relatively simple for most people (not the English though, as they cannot pronounce a P followed by an F).
English: Well, pronunciation is a problem for pretty much everybody, including the English. There are no universal rules how a given sound should be spelled. I mean, just look at the world "should". Why is there an L? And why is there a silent "gh" in light, when the same letters in enough mean "f"?
French. Grammar and Pronunciation: Although pronunciation isn't quite as bad as English. Grammar on the other hand is about as bad as German.

German may have its problems but I think it's probably the worlds finest language for shouting.
I think english is so complicated because it's trying to be every language at once. It seems to try and absorb concepts from other languages and just jam them in wherever they might fit.
Remember when this thread used to be about quake?

It's almost like Yoda speak the way the verb and object are placed...
"I have my invitation gotten" if you translate the above sentence directly word for word...
Still, it's nice to get a lesson! Thank you!

still no invites to give :(

Well it's either my PC or my net connection but that QuakeLive thing ran like a slideshow for me and wouldn't finish the 10 minute match ....after 10 minutes......
It looks like the party ended a little too early. All my invites are also gone. :(
@JudasIscariot: Just tried a practice match with a couple of bots on Asylum and it seemed to work just fine. I don't even have that great of a net connection either. May be they were updating the servers or something along those lines. You should give it a try again.

Bots are so fun! Since I suck ass, I dial down the bots to "I Can Win", so I can feel better about myself and boost self-esteem.
Anyway, when can we get some more matches going? I'd love to play with you guys. Just put down your Quake Live player name, if you haven't already.

I think this would be best at midnight GMT or something like that, because right now, our American friends are still in bed.

*smile*, pretty much, yes. Although Yoda usually moves the auxiliary verb to the end of the sentence, along with the subject.
"gotten my invitation, I have"
