Ah, my favourite franchise :). Best voice acting in video gaming.
As a Legacy of Kain fanatic I think I should write a few sentences about who owns what, when or why :P.
First of all - I'm 100% sure that the rights to the franchise are now in the hands of Square Enix (unless there has been some secret deal last month :P). The problem is that I am not sure whether they own
full rights to Blood Omen 1.
The situation looks like this: BO:LoK was developed by Silicon Knights - a studio that was (and still is) independent. That would mean that they would own the code and the assets. The game was published by Crystal Dynamics (and partially Activision). Later SK lost the rights to the franchise to CD, and later CD was bought by Eidos. CD became the developer and made four sequels. In the meantime Eidos was bought by Sci, that later renamed itself to Eidos plc :P. At that time LoK was put on hold, and CD was entrusted with Tomb Raider. And finally - Eidos was bought by Square Enix and was merged with Square Enix Europe (but it still operates under the name Eidos).
So - the situation with four sequels (Soul Reaver 1, 2, Blood Omen 2 and Defiance) is clear - it's Square Enix.
The case of original Blood Omen however looked like a nasty example of a game with rights all over the place (Silicon Knights, Activision, Crystal Dynamics = Eidos = Square Enix) - until the game showed up on PSN. That means that there is someone that can sell it, and my money is on SE. The publisher in the game card is Activision, but there is something else. Soul Reaver is also available on PSN, and has Eidos as a publisher instead of SE (so it seems that this information only includes original publisher and not the current right owner).
And Sony has nothing to say about the PC version.
I can try and ask at Eidos Headquarters about the situation with BO1, but I can't promise that I will find out anything ;).
Anyway - Vae Victus!
(and I'm still waiting for a sequel).
predcon: but I think we can all safely assume that Sony will fight the distribution of the DOS version.
And it will be an easy win because BO is a Windows title ;) - as I said - they have nothing to say about PC version.
And Arkose is right - Warner bought Rocksteady - a reason why Arkham Asylum 2 won't have Eidos label on it.
