Thought some people here might be interested in it.
I've been vaguely contemplating a handheld and this umd-free version is looking kinda swanky. If they release ALL the PSP games as downloadable stuff and if the machine itself isn't stupidly expensive then I may have to look into getting one.
i'm a fan of the psp
i wish the go was a little sexier, though
sony charges a premium, and part of that can be justified by the cool factor of their products
go isn't really doin it for me
Unfortunately, I would be willing to bet a Good Old Game that there will never be a complete catalog of the PSP games out now on UMD available for download. I think I will pick up a 3000 if that is the case, but not until I find out.
It is cool, though. I just wish they would have started off with that idea, because now it's not going to be implemented well and everyone will use it as "proof" that it can't work.
EDIT: And I agree with captfitz about the sex appeal. My fingertips aren't set aflame with desire after seeing the design.

Looks fugly as hell. And the D-pad is right next to the nub stick, which is utterly moronic. I hope it's not real. I'm sticking with my old white PSP-1000.
anybody else think the face piece was built out of clay? seriously it looks effed up.
Well the main game I want for it is Warhammer 40000 Squad Command, if they don't release that then they can take a hike and I'll play it on a DS along with GTA Chinatown Wars
I actually rather like the design, seems simple and elegant with a nice way of hiding the controls when they're not needed. Not exactly happy about the memory stick micro as a storage device, I'd have prefered MicroSDHC but then its sony's own format...

Yep. I find amusing that the 'security' guy had a hands-free ear piece in, like he was being really rude and talking to someone on the phone while that woman yacked about nothing.
Weclock: Congrats on 300!
The new control location looks awkward, and I do wonder whether those with larger hands will find their fingers hitting up against the top of the system during the more frantic moments. The complete lack of a UMD slot means that the limited game library will be an even bigger issue than it was for the original PSP; many past games won't be re-released digitally and I very much doubt they will let you rip existing UMDs to images.
I am surprised that the unit doesn't have some sort of pause/play button accessible when closed (which would be very useful when using it for music or video content), although perhaps the PlayStation button contains that functionality.
I am pleased to see that they have not incorporated a touch screen into this.

An earpiece is an expected component of bodyguard and secret service garb. Sony apparently wanted to include every stereotype they could squeeze in; fingerprint readers, radio confirmation of clearance, etc.
Also, note that their interviewer is a woman, a generically sexy woman at that, well-endowed and with long hair and a low-cut top... Sony knows what their audience wants to see, I guess.

Well I think she's the host of that PS3 show so its not like they picked her up just for this one thing, its more an overarching strategy of showing off boobies.
If they do make all their previous games available as downloads (and they'd be mad not to and let you register UMD games as a digital version because there goes all of your existing psp owning customers who were thinking of upgrading), I think it has potential.
Is there any non-wikipedia source that has a full list of the games available for the PSP? Is there like a PSP/PS3 version of the xbox 360 web marketplace that anyone can just go and browse? I seem to recall mention of something along those lines on the playstation website but it wouldn't let me look without a PSN ID and seemed to not let me create a PSN ID anywhere but on a PS3
The controls do look a little small for my giant ape hands but if you can fit your fingers on the shoulder buttons anyway you're not likely to encounter issues with the sliding screen unless you take your fingers off the buttons completely when you're not using them

They should have called "PSP prooot"..... It's a damn videogame console, not an handset! What these jerks at Sony have in their minds? It's another nail in the coffin of one of the worst tech companies out there... they were the best in designing things and innovating, now the only things they seem to be able to do is to kill their own brands (PlayStation first, and PSP now), spread malware (all the damn PC rootkits out there are a Sony responsibility, NO discussion here) and dissatisfy users....
I'm perfectly fine with my PSP-1000.

I'm pretty sure Sony hasn't FUBAR'ed the PS3 to an extent that it's dead (um, free multiplayer and near-zero restrictions with Linux, letting you play UT3 mods from the PC on your PS3, keyboard and mouse), and to say they're one of the worst tech companies out there is an overstatement. I can think of a few others that suck even more balls, based on experience and how much they're fucked consumers in the ass.

Yeah that's Veronica Belmont... she hosts Qore. The monthly PS3 distributed gaming video Mag. She does an OK job but she's kinda generic. Cute... but generic.

I'm with Michael on this one.
Say what you will about Sony. They have screwed up quite a bit this gen with pricing of the PS3 and stuff like that, but they are doing what they can and keeping it alive. Expect a price drop to be announced this week.
Personally (and no offense intended to anyone) I really think that MS has screwed over their customers quite a bit more considering how unreliable the 360 has been since launch. My second one is on the way out. First one Redringed less than a year after I got it. Love the system, but if I ever have to pay for a repair on the thing... I'm done with it. Not to mention they decided not to put a $.50 piece of foam in the drive that would have avoided all of the disc scratching issues. Annoys the crap out of me.
As for the PSP Go! They have stated that the PSP-3000 will still be supported and it will be up to the developer whether they want to make a larger game on UMD or a smaller game for download.
I will pass on the Go though. Unless there is some way to get my UMD games on to the memory stick... forget it.
I'll stick to my 2000.

I'm on my third (fourth?) 360 already, and I think it's one of them Jasper ones, so that's a good sign. About the Go, I hope Gran Turismo comes out on disc (like they promised us back in oh, 2004?!) because I don't think I'll get it that way. Then again, it should mean that all games would be sold on the PSN, which is available on the PSPs that we've all come to know and love.
But I haven't actually used a PSP UMD since 2007 (I have CFW, so I just rip my UMDs to my 4GB stick to play both backups and "backups") so obviously Sony has nailed its demographic. Whether or not that demographic will want to ditch their perfectly working PSPs (mine has ONE dead pixel, but whatever) in favor of this new system which effectively is a sacrifice between the classy disc system for the harder-to-homebrew PSP Go is something that remains to be seen this fall. I already know one person who will preorder it anyway.

GT is said to be coming, but it sounded like it will be in DL form. Whether or not it will be available both ways has yet to be seen I think.
I still use my PSP a lot and I love it! And I would probably get the Go if they made it possible to easily transfer UMD games to it. But I don't see that happening.
I think what will really sell the Go will be price. They need to price this thing at the same price or less than the DS lite.
