I pretty much buy Sony consoles for Japanese developed games. As long as there are plenty of those, I'll buy it eventually.

(My PC is for anything Western Developed)

ktchong: BIG Con:
Can't play used or second-hand games.

Sony is just begging for a class action lawsuit from consumers.
Yeah, that worked for PC games too... :)

I guess I can live without the possibility for second-hand games, but unlike the game publishers may think, it does not mean I will start using more money on buying games than before. (referring to some articles where the publishers claim that a person would buy a new console game for a full price, if he had no option to buy a second-hand copy cheaper).

michaelleung: The original PS3 had an actual PS2 CPU inside the unit, and I guess they couldn't be bothered to do software emulation.

grviper: PSN received a bunch of PS2 Classics recently. Not the HD remakes, the real thing. They run via software emulation.
Yes, reselling the same games over and over again is much better business than offering free backwards compatibility, Sony knows that. :)

No GOG jokes please, GOG is not reselling games they have sold to you in the past already.

I probably won't be able to afford it at launch.
Later on, when it drops in prince I might get it IF it offers backwards compatibility and I can play used games. Or even better, if it can be jailbroken.
I might buy it in 6-8 years when it's half the launch price and used exclusives are cheap. Meanwhile I'll keep on familiarizing myself with ps2 and ps3.
PS4 will be completely different than the moronic rumors floating through the Interwebs right now.

In particular:

- It will be backward compatible
- It will bring an updated version of the Cell processor and a post-Kepler NVIDIA GPU (or AMD).
- It will have a Blu-ray drive, capable of supporting 100 Gigabytes multi-layer disks
- It will support Full HD and 4K resolutions with ease, MUCH MORE ease than PS3 supporting 1080p right now
- Yes, it will support 3D, but 3D will be shitty and unpopular as ever
- It will have God of War 6 as part of its launch titles
- It WILL NOT BLOCK the second-hand games market

I haven't even bought the PS3 yet so it won't be any time soon. (and no, not an Xbox fan)

Because we're already running out of space for non-interactive FMVs and shit voice acting :)

Nope, because 4K cinematics will waste a ginormous amount of bits on the disk :-P And higher-res textures will do their part, too....

I have a Wii/XBox360/PS3, and I would use the PS3
much more if playing on it didn't involve this for each
new game:

1) put the game in the console;

2) game needs to be installed
--> install the game;

3) console needs to be updated
--> download update on awfully slow server;
--> install system update;

4) game needs to be updated
--> download update on awfully slow server;
--> install game update;

5) play the game.

Yeah, so fun, Sony brought the full PC experience to console
users.

If the PS4 is anything like that, I will wait until it's cheaper
that the newest gameboy. Hey, a gameboy/PSP is mandatory
to keep yourself occupied while waiting for a PS3 to allow
you to play a game.
Oh, and that's another prediction that will likely be right:

- The PS4 will have an AWFULLY AWFUL UI on par with the shitty crap that's now on the PS Vita....

I noticed how all these touch-enabled devices have these crappy UIs. The PSP interface was clean and simple. Games went under games, Videos under Media, etc. etc. Now you have these floating ball things on the PS Vita interface. What did good clean menus do to anyone?
No. But at least it should mean that PC games stop looking like crappy 360 ports.
PS4 probably won't exist. Sony may go bankrupt soon... it has been losing money that it actually asked its employees to return their annual bonuses. That's bad.
With the current Sony troubles I can say that we might not actually see a PS4 at this point... at least not on time and not what we currently expect.

Well, to be fair, as crap as LiveArea looks with those fucking bubbles, it's actually a fairly practical UI. Scroll up and down for your apps list, scroll left and right for the apps currently open.

As for the PS4, well, not a lot we can say at the moment. If the rumours prove true then I can guarantee I won't be buying one. DRM has pretty much completely driven me away from PC gaming (my gaming PC hasn't been switched on for three weeks now, although I'll be giving my newly acquired Rayman Origins a try soon) and I'll simply exit gaming altogether if Sony and co. try to force my hand.
