Maybe this is a totally insane idea, but I would LOVE to see some of these titles ported into the Playstation Store. People are paying $5+ for old PS1 games that look and play every bit as horrid as they originally did,. Seems to me some intense brains, labor, and work with some genius on Sony's development side could make some of these games shine like new on the PS3. Seems many of these titles would fetch an easy $15 from a very frugal fella like me, maybe even $20 for a few of them if very well polished and ported.
And don't forget that PC keyboards and mice work just fine with the PS3 ;)

The first question would have to be "why?" The second would be "how?" It would require extensive redevelopment. Sony would be taking a cut. The market would be tiny. Especially if the titles required keyboard & mouse. It's so far from viable that it doesn't even qualify as a pipe dream.

Well yes its a crazy idea but then the PS3 CAN run linux (particular models anyway) and presumably it CAN run WINE so in theory...
There's no way it could ever be official, they depend on direct x which is owned by microsoft

Wine doesn't work on the PS3, it doesn't like the Cell processor.

Ahh fair enough then, I've only ever used a PS3 once (beyond networking it for other people) so I've not ever tried its version of linux. I figured the distro you install could be optimised for the PS3 and any apps on there would hand instructions to the OS rather than access the hardware directly

Its not really Wine that is the problem, it is the Windows API and Windows software that is the issue. It only likes the X86 instruction set. Pretty much the only way Wine could work on a PS3 is if they add an X86 emulator to run underneath it, kind of like the original Darwine project tried to do for Power PC based Macs.

Also note that PS3 Linux cannot access the GPU, and you can't install Linux on the new slim model at all. The only way to feasibly play GOG titles on the PS3 is if they were ported and officially sold which would be a gargantuan task.

In these years Sony proved to be utterly stupid, other than evil, and they now are selling their failing PS3 as a fancy-pancy multimedia hub and not just as a powerful and capable video gaming system as it should be.
And do you expect they care for games any more? Moreover for old, mouse&keyboard depending games? Fool....

The most realistic option might be to port ScummVM and Dosbox to the PS3, in which case at least some of GOG's games would work. These applications have already been ported to several different platforms and CPU architectures, they can even run on my cell phone. There are good chances that they already work with Linux on the PS3.

Thats what killed Commodore's CDTV, noone knew if it was a home entertainment product or a computer and there never seemed to be a firm position in the marketing
